How many JW's are doing bad things each year worthy of being DF'd?

I think it depends on the congregation. Where we are it is a small congregation and the majority of the congregation are old/elderly/mature, in fact there is only one teenager in the congregation. For a few years now things have chugged along quietly.

However, in my mother's congregation, about three times the size with lots of younger ones, disfellowshipping is a regular occurrence plus there is an 'undercurrent' of gossip about all the immorality and that is going on with the youngsters.

Overall I think the majority of congregations have a percentage of JW's that are doing things; it is just easier to lead a double life as long as you can rather than face all the disfellowshipping/shunning ritual.

What the society terms seriouse wrongdoing-is oftern anything but seriouse wrong doing.

The society controlls by fear and not love because the society needs captive minds.

I think sites like this champion interlectual freedom the greatest act of wrong doing according to the society.

The portrait of the ideal witness is someone who is running around preaching to everyone they meet like their hairs on fire they live in the cheapest undecorated place clean a few houses for money never watch tv or movies or listen to anything except kingdom melodies and only read jw material.

no one can really live like this and technically speaking if you don't your disobedient and deserve to be df'd it's crazy!

If you are talking about an act that you could get disfellowshipped for, perhaps quite a few more than one would assume. Too many get drunk or abuse drugs. You hear about the pedophiles all the time on these boards, and there could be others setting up still others for this (there are, last I knew, more than 25,000 known pedophiles in the religion). And, there are probably quite a few that do fornication, or "loose conduct" (as they like calling it when you get "too close") and don't get caught. Apostasy aside, I would say that as much as 15-20% of all witlesses do it, and that could be as high as 50% or more among those who are baptized and under 30.

However, if you include "sins" for which you only get hounded, I would estimate something like 95% or even higher. This would include those that go to the bar once or twice a year but do not get drunk. It would also include those watching R-rated movies, listening to rap and/or heavy metal music, sending children to college, those who often miss boasting sessions or field circus because they want to get out of town, or that are "materialistic". Under 30, it jumps to near 100%, since masturbation and viewing porn is included. And, if you include viewing the Christmas lights on purpose (such as driving around to see them) or watching Christmas specials or listening to Christmas music on purpose, it could be even higher. I would expect very few under 70 to be totally "clean", and even those above 70 could be inciting "It wouldn't hurt to drive around and enjoy the Christmas lights" or "It isn't that bad to enjoy the Christmas carols if you are doing it for the music itself and not as part of the celebration".

Of course it depends on the congregation. But yeah, 30-40% is probably not unreasonable, given that, as you suggested, most people never get caught & don't confess, and the majority who are caught or confess get off with just reproof.

BTW the 100,000 figure must be worldwide - if US only, it would represent 10% of US witnesses, and would average out to about 1 DF per congregation per month - way too high.

I would be tempted to say 40-50% if we are talking about df offenses. Upwards of 95-98% if we are talking about sins that would still get you a back-room session.

Through their harsh, legalistic ways of dealing with problems, the Organization creates an environment where individuals are forced to conceal their sins and struggles.

I recently heard the 100k world wide figure at a public talk. I know him fairly well and asked him afterward where he got his figure. He got it from the CO. I realize its all heresay but he must believe it. This guy is a substitute CO and is trying to get into the circuit work on a full time basis. Not that it matters, but he's generally not the type to pull numbers out of his butt.

I would say a conservative estimate would be 3 non-dfings to every 1 dfing.

My guess is that a large number are involved with things that would get them dfed by their own rules.
