Metatron, so many questions .... so many answers. Someone covered the financial angle a while back ...but to put it succinctley ... they don't want to miss out on the biggest bonanza of all time! Baby Boomers! A large number of hard core JW's are Boomers, the number of them is large because there never has been alive at one time (generation) so many aged persons. What does this bunch have? Money, property, inheritance. How old are they? So old, that in every November Watchtower for the last few years the society has shamelessly shilled for donations, mostly aimed at them ... for their realestate, insurance policies, jewelery, cash.......maybe someone would post that disgusting dble page?? Now this jackpot must be protected by every and all means! Does this answer one of the Whys?

I think they are afraid of internet apostasy. But note how very few articles or talks refer to "apostate websites" with that phrasing. That is because if they kept bringing it up in that context, it would actually ring a bell in some heads and cause them to investigate what the big bru-ha-ha is all about. That would in turn mean more minds would be unshackled and more feet out the door.

The actual amount of "apostate" content is staggering. I don't think JW's really realize how much their precious truth has been dissected, analyzed, sliced and diced.

So how do you combat internet apostasy without mentioning it? Lay it on thick with the "faithful slave" talk. How great they are...how "Christ's brothers" are feeding you at the proper time. And of course the "where else would you go?" card gets dealt out once again with that horrific September WT.

I think that, maybe, since they've lengthened the amount of time a generation is, people have somewhat lost their sense of urgency about Armageddon being right around the corner. Maybe they're starting to see that they can't make it as window washers and part-time office cleaners and people are starting to disregard Mother's advice to avoid college, avoid pursuing a career, etc., and the WTS is afraid they are losing their grip. Surely people who have been in for a long time are wearying of getting by on crackers and water and would have a hard time encouraging others to follow their examples.

Maybe, just maybe, the JDubs are becoming more worldly and the GB are worried about losing control.

Time is their worst enemy. The longer "this system" drags on, the more likely it will be that more and more will fade, disassociate themselves and they will have less people willing to join their BS group. Time is what they fear so they must adapt to the reality that we're almost at 100 years since the revised second coming of Chirst and there is no paradise. Not only are they spending more time selling BS with fewer results, they also have today's technology to fight against as it's so much easier for new ones and awakening dubs to finds wts old publication, past doctrinal changes and the many scandels that GB keeps hidden from the general public. Their religion was based on limited time and they can strech it out only so far and time is running out.

They've been publically torpedoed and so their unsinkable ship is beginning to list. The band keeps playing, but things are happening that cannot continue to be ignored or kept silent. Soon they're going to have to give the abandon ship order and resort to simply publishing magazines instead of building an empire with all its control. This they'll chalk it up to persecution, apostates and the last days being wicked, but they'll be able to save face by maintaining their status as the FDS But the infrastructural support that holds things together like CO visits and assemblies and new publications every year will have to be eliminated. Of course they will paint themselves as victims and maybe hold some kind of public show-trials to expose some of the evil enemies within which would be the equivalent of a public stoning. Those who fear such a fate for themselves for their evil internet carousing will flee like rats, who can also be targeted as "unindicted co-apostates," so they won't have to make any more draconian downsizing decisions as it will be totally voluntary. All of this will buy them time before the bulwark finally sinks.

I would imagine that the WTS are very very worried and afraid of the witnesses using the Internet.

It is the life blood of the younger generation and kids nowadays if they want to know something they wikiped-it. They will come across forums like this and find that apostates are not hate-filled against Jehovah, but have had their eyes opened and the minds free from the control.

The Internet allows you to know anything and anyone.

Thanks to the Internet..the WTS will lose any credibility and control over the younger ones (and us not so young too!).

Amazing that so many words have been written above. Most of it is blahblah.

What is the Watchtower afraid of?

Individual men and some women (mostly from families dating back to mid 1900's apocalyptic American religions) now living in New York, not being cared for financially and medically in their retirement years in the USA of the 2000's. Nothing more complicated than that.

    Many good thoughts here....

The essense of reaction must involve the opposite of the observed reaction. If they assert 'obey us', then they worry that people aren't. If 'we are the holy anointed Grand PooBahs and Masters of Time and Space', they worry that they are irrelevant.

I think they may be stuck in a situation in which they feel they have all the responsibility and almost no ability to affect change. Every week, this board offers news of their failure - they dumped the Pioneer Assistance thing, no soft Bibles, no branch offices in Central America....

Oh, and the rumor now is that they will shut down the branch office in Ireland? They must be hitting the bottle by this time.

I think it is all about money, they are afraide they are loosing it. As far as the internet goes, they talk about the porn aspect but are afraide of the us apostates. If they continue to say the internet is full of aspotate wolves they know that thousands of JW would start looking for the info just to prove us wrong, as we see some pop up here all the time. I think that scares they as well, but it is all about the money.
