Burns - I heard that the Catholic church does teach that people of other denominations will go to hell (or maybe purgatory). But that they would not want them to go. Can you clear that up, if you know?
Some people will go to hell, by their own free choice. That is what the Catholic church teaches. This includes Catholics and non-Catholics. It does not say who, nor does it say that being part of a different religion, or none at all, automatically condemns someone to hell.
When it comes to other Christian denominations, they are considered "separated brethren."
What the Catholic Church teaches is that the "fullness" of divine revelation dwells in Apostolic Christianity, which not only includes the various Catholic churches, but Orthodox ones as well.
Mormons, like Jehovah's Witnesses, are not considered properly Christian, due to their denying what are considered some basic tenets of orthodox Christianity, such as the Trinity.
Muslims and Jews are considered to worship the God of Abraham, but differently.
