A Bolo Tie is a western look. I remember seeing brothers wear western cut sports coats...Wear cowboy booths...Would a Bolo Tie be OK today? I know the no hair look passed. But I did have to shave off the beard when I returned. Maybe I will give it a try cause I got several. Any advice other than not going to the KH...zadok 777.

It would not fly in Brooklyn, even if you were Texan.

It depends...on the congregation, where it is. I lived out west and traveled there and saw several brothers not only wear a bolo tie but cowboy boots on the stage. And that was the school overseer. It just depends on what the "holy spirit" is telling them. I do wonder if they would wear theym during the CO visit.

My grandfather came from NM and wore Bolo ties all the time when in WA State, until he moved to OR (I know...TMI!) when he was told not to wear them. He wore a cowboy hat, too. Took it off at the door and put it on the shelf for the meeting.

Been to a lot halls in the Phoenix area, some of them would allow bolo ties and cowboy boots and others would not. Some elders were almost militant in their need to "counsel" ones wearing cowboy boots. I remember one elder grabing a small child (who was wearing some sneakers -- the dog ate his dress shoes) and taking his father into the back room. The father left with his son to go immediately buy appropriate dress shoes. All that crap is about appearance.. just like any good sales organization... barf!

These stories reminded of that time Jesus pulled Peter into a back room for wearing a blue and gold robe instead of one of the more modest earthen colors, as well as the time he counciled Mathew for the "worldly" way he was trimming his beard.

Let's also not forget the very timely council Jesus gave to John the Baptist when he discovered John was performing baptisms whilst wearing camel skins and even having locus breath.

True disciples of Christ know the good lord is very particular when it comes to how you dress and groom.

If you must go, push the envelope. Do what you want, what feels right for you. Don't bring a back-up tie and see what they say. Bring the entire western look (boots, hat, bolo tie) and recognize that it is polite to take the hat off.

If they scramble to get you another tie or refuse to let you up on the platform, think about how they made you feel. If they let you up there, see how they make you feel afterward.
