And why does the Annual Meeting of the WTS occur the first week of October?

In the book The Way to Paradise, Van Amburgh wrote "The Jewish legal year begins in the fall, about our October first.

This is also the time the WTS starts prophetic periods.

Russell and Franz were enamored with Jewishness.

Not that there is anything wrong with that; so am I.

However, the egregiousness comes in when you try to force your way into prophetic fulfillment.

I always thought it was so they could put the prior "service year's" publisher counts in the yearbook, which is typically released in December / January. They'd need a couple of months to receive & compile reports from far-flung contries & islands, at least in the pre-internet days.

I guess I'm not sure of your question.

If you're asking why they start their 'new year' in September - or October - many times businesses will have a 'new year' that starts in a month - other than January, for accounting purposes. The federal government is one - and their fiscal year starts on October 1st (you should know this as you work for the federal govt).

If you're trying to make some ominious JW-link-to-bible-bs-link I can't help you there.

Blondie, they are fascinated with the fall. Especially back in the day. My parents/grandparents always told us that the Great Tribulation would start in the fall b/c that is when Jehovah usually takes action.

I also used to think it was interesting that it coincided with the fiscal calendar. The WTS loves that paper.

The "end" is supposed to come in the fall of the year...so I was always told growing up.

Without doubt, it would be fitting of the God of order to instruct his people to conduct their service year in accord with his grand plan to end the current system of things at the beginning of a new year...

Blondie’s post still doesn’t answer the question of why the service year begins in September.

I've heard that the most ancient calendars began the year in the Fall, that Adam's creation was in the Fall, that Jesus of Nazareth was born in the Fall, that He will return in the Fall ...

It all begins to add up now.
