Who wrote the book of Revelation?

    Terry,

In my own experience there are Jews and there are Jews. My mother's father was an atheist, his sons were Communists and Socialists (hence the right-wing Hitler hated the left-wing Jews).

My mother's parents went through a civil marriage ceremony, whereas my father's parents were married by the Rabbi but did not bother about a civil service until they had three children; Austria does not recognise religious marriage ceremonies.

Today, my Jewish relatives include ultra-orthodox (and Zionists), nominal Jews and those who are interested in New Age philosophy.

I see the writer of Revelation as being a staunch ultra-orthodox nationalist, an extremist where even the slightest deviation is anathema. We can see an example of his attitude in his descriptions of the 144,000 male virgin Jews from the 12 Tribes. I think some of these ideas are canvassed in the piece I provide at the start of this Thread. Please tell me if I am wrong.

Some of it is Isaiah re-written somewhat, so I'm pretty sure they were acquainted with the Hebrew scriptures.

But, man, I want some of what they were smokin. Good stuff!

My former wife and three of my children are Jewish. There is a distinction. If your mother was Jewish, then, the kids are automatically Jewish.

Why? It is a racial thing first. Or, ethnic.

Secondly, if you choose to live by the tenets of Judaism you can be a "practising" Jew (religion-wise.) Otherwise you are a non-practising Jew.

(A great designation for violinists, I'd say:)

All my kids are non-believers, by the way. My ex-wife, while Jewish, was a non-believer in any traditional sense of the word.

    Terry,

Thanks for the forum at the web site you listed; looks interesting.

My comments regarding Jewish ancestry related to your question about a "most Jewish Jew". There are shades, as in any other regime. And yes, I am aware that descent is through the mother. The book that I cited at the start of this thread suggests that the writer of Revelation had a strong Jewish background (my words, not his).

If you have not yet read the book (you will find the title at the end of the PDF) then I strongly recommend that you do. It dovetails very nicely into our shared understanding of Scripture as well as with the continual eschatology that pervades history from that time to ours.

Another book is "Apocalypse and Millennium: Studies in Biblical Eisegesis" by Kenneth Newport. That book, however, is more focused on the Branch Davidians (and hence the SDAs).

Who wrote the book of Revelation?

Simple - look at the title of the book! Rev. Elation wrote it, silly. Though I am not sure if he prefers Right Reverend Elation or not.
