OMG, Tim, I just quit a job for that very reason. The constant correction and punishment for errors made with either non-existant or unclear instruction was used to distract employees from realizing what a terrible pay scale the company had. My supervisor is constantly in the ER with major panic attacks, and I'm certain it's due to the stress of low pay and long hours.
I have no advice for you, but, yes, ex cult members are probably very aware of mind control tactics.
