I was browsing through the WT site and came across an article on "Are We Living in the Last Days". Being curious to see if we were or not, I clicked on the article and was puzzled at an illustration shown.

Beside the illustration was the following:

"...the Bible fortold that the last days would be marked by a change in human society. The apostle Paul described what people in general would be like. At 2 Timothy 3: 1-5 we read: “In the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here.” In part, Paul said that people would be.."

and then listed the items in bullet style form:

  • lovers of themselves
  • lovers of money
  • disobedient to parents
  • disloyal
  • having no natural affection
  • without self-control
  • fierce
  • lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God
  • having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power
  • Beside the bullet points was this illustration:

I was trying to match each of Paul's descriptions with each of the type of people shown.

Lovers of pleasure was a reach. So the guy was enjoying a beer and a cigar. There's a pin-up girl on the wall behind him. Oh the humanity...

Lovers of money... somehow I never pictured Bernie Madoff in this pose.

But the one on the top left, stymied me. What the hell was that one? It's not the typical WT illustration of a drug user. This person is in the hospital. Wait...I'm seeing it now...

There's a tube in her arm...that goes back to the bag hanging on the IV stand...it's...yes, yes....it's a blood transfusion. She falls under the very first description: lovers of themselves. The Society, in all its subliminal glory, is attributing a standard health care practice with being a lover of oneself.

I shouldn't be surprised, I guess, but this illustration is too much. Look at the look on her face... You have to know that they purposely made this person look wild eyed and almost possessed. This is what happens to you when you get a blood transfusion, you know.

You can go on about lovers of pleasures and lovers of money and disloyal and actually make some valid points but this insidious attempt to label blood transfusions as sign of being in the last days is really reaching, not to mention despicable and low class.

    What a bunch of bastards...

Was that going to be your title?

Really, I was reading this, and according to the bible itself, just WHEN in human history was that all not true???

Blood transfusion equals disloyal as well as lovers of themselves. Sad but true and witnesses will see the article and think it is fine. So sad.

That is a good title...if only it would let me edit it...

just WHEN in human history was that all not true???

I thought about that as well...a lot of things wrong with the "last days" scenerio, but the blood transfusion illustration just floored me...

The guy with the pint and cigar looks like Stephen Fry. In that case the pin-up would be a transvestite

Undercover - "The Societ, in all its subliminal glory, is attributing a standard health care practice with being a lover of oneself."

I wonder how many JW's noticed that picture when published?

All of those in the illustration were supposed to be 'wicked worldly people' but she in bed doesn't fit that of a worldly person who would not be viewing blood transfusions as wrong.

She then would have to be a 'wicked JW person' instead ignoring the loving GB admonishement of no blood.

But wouldn't that be an admission of the GB that blood can save your life?

...Who wonders where undercover gets all this time to figure out these things?

I usually have the odd epiphany when I happen across WT stuff now and then. This was a sudden realization...I didn't have to study it, it just came to me. I was actually looking for something else in particular and saw this article and just peeked in to see if it was still the same old crap when I saw that illustration.

When you find the time, it's interesting to go back and look at old publications. You see them in an entirely different light. You realize just how cultish and manipulative it really is. Then you realize how fooled you really were.

That and I'm on a late lunch hour...

    Nice catch, Undercover!

I guess it could also be under the "disloyal" heading, couldn't it?

What a terrible illustration - is this one straight out of the Live Forever book? Man, recycling those awful illustrations just reeks of laziness and self-importance.
