What will the elders think?

The issue for me is not what they say, but what they don't say. They don't say you should not get a tattoo; they use weasel words and phrases. After saying we are NOT under the Law, they say that the prohibition is "sobering". ?? If we are not under the Law, why is it sobering? The law also says a menstruating woman is unclean; do we view that as sobering today? No.

They use innuendo and tricks to get the R&F to not get tattoos:

g03 9/22 While Christians today are not under the Law of Moses, the prohibition it laid on tattooing is sobering. (Ephesians 2:15; Colossians 2:14, 15) If you are a Christian, you would certainly not want to make markings on your body—even temporarily—that smack of paganism or false worship.—2 Corinthians 6:15-1

Perhaps it would be spiritually advantageous for him to get the date 1914 tattooed around his other wrist, as a constant reminder of how wrong the WTB&TS can be and how stubbornly they will stick with their errors.
