I noted from a previouse post many based it on spelling.

I hope this forum accepts new posters on more than that

How is one accepted on this forum?

    Accolytes.

There are a few people here who, out of boredom I suspect, find little faults. I accept you for what you are. Good spellers are a bit easier to follow, but it's not required as far as I'm concerned.

No marking, no disfellowshipping, no public reproof. Come on in, the water's fine.

I think as long as you are posting and not hatin' than you will be accepted.

    Welcome to the board.

Most here don't nitpick on things like that and bullies don't last long here.

Until one can give reasons otherwise. In other words, everyone starts out with an 'A'. Whether one keeps the 'A' or ends up with an 'F' depends solely on them.

(I'm still working up to a 'D', by the way.)

First, you fill out a form...I think it's called "Can I Join, Please?". It's only about 5 pages...but you give plenty of info so that a decision can be made to see if you're worthy of being accepted. Family history, medical history, have you ever been arrested, did you go to jail, are just a few things I remember. Oh...and there is a spelling and grammar test.

Then you submit it to the forum owner. Two Admins and 5 Mods review the application. Then they meet to vote on your acceptance or not. They only meet once a month, so it might take awhile.

If the vote goes your way, you're allowed in...but you're on probation for 90 days. If during the probation period you are accused fo being a troll, another 30 days is added. Three accusations during the probation period results in your being banned for one year. A year later you can reapply, if you so choose. You'll go through the process again, If accepted, you have to go through probation again but with only one troll accusation allowed. If accused, you're banned for life.

If you make it through probation, you are then considered a "regular" with full posting privileges and the right to accuse others of being a troll.

I'm kidding of course. Just start posting. Be respectful of the site and other posters and you'll be fine. There are all kinds here. It takes a tough hide sometimes when the sarcastic ones and the smartasses single you out, but you learn over time how to give and take.

    Welcome...

    UC you are too funny!

acolytes, welcome to the forum! We have a great group here. Many personalities, opinions and beliefs. My suggestion for being accepted is simply BE RESPECTFUL. I've seen some debates on very intense subjects (theism vs. atheism) where the posters stated their firmly held views but were consistently respectful of the other person's position. In other words, you can express any opinion you want. If you're going to be an ass about it you won't be popular. If you show respect to others, you'll get it right back.

I tend to differentiate people who strongly believe something against what I believe, and a true troll. Quite a few people have been accused of being trolls that are really pro-witless (some may in fact be active witlesses that honestly think they can get others that stumble on these boards to go back to the Kingdumb Hell). These are usually easy to rebut by tearing the post itself apart. Another poster (I will not mention the name) always thought the end was coming in 2011, and had calculations to back it up--and may well have been sincere in believing that (I will not rebut that with finality until January 1, 2012 in the off-chance that this poster is right).

However, if someone attacks everything and anything, bashing the posters themselves without finding a rational argument against the posts, this is more likely to be a true troll. And, they usually disregard the rules--generally they will insult, provoke, and even threaten (often using excessive swearing in the process). Occasionally, they will even break the law--hacking, threatening with death, and other acts meant to intimidate or harm other posters. Sometimes they will continually post links to porn sites or other irrelevant subjects, and even viruses and spyware. This is far worse than someone that insistently posts pro-witless material all the time or posts their own predictions of when the end is going to come.
