I thought they had quit putting them in motels here in Missouri also..at least years ago when hubby and I traveled we didn't see any.
When I was a witness and stayed in motels for the assemblies in the 60's and 70's there was always a Gideon bible in the drawer..
Never did meet any of them Gideons, just their bibles...

Yes they give bibles FREE!
When my kids died ,I donated to them
& they put it in any church & in the front
it says "IN MEMORY OF ALAn GOUGH
"Thw next one said" In Memory of Melanie Legg" my daughter
I have had people go to church & see them & tell me

The Gideons draw their volunteer members from many Christian denominations, but Article 3 of the Gideon Constitution prohibits Catholics, Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Scientists, Orthodox Christian Churches, Unitarians, and Mormons from joining or attending Gideon functions.
