A Gandaberunda sculpture(also known as the Berunda) is found on the roof of the Rameshwara temple, in the temple town of Keladi, Shivamogga district, India.

The Gandaberunda is a two headed mythological bird of Hindu mythology thought to possess magical strength. It is used as the official emblem by the Karnataka government and it is seen as an intricately sculptured motif in Hindu temples. The origin of the double headed bird goes far back in time. As far back as 2000 BC to 1300 BC the double-headed eagles are present in archaeological remains of the Hittite culture.

Many countries have used the double headed eagle.

In 1202 it was used as the seal for the Count of Wurzburg; in 1276 it was on the coat of arms of Henricus de Rode; Philip of Saxony used the image on his shield, and also the Bishop of Cologne.

The oldest known representation of the double headed eagle represents Nigersu and his city Lagash. (maybe we can elaborate on this later)

A newly deciphered cuneiform fragment from a site in Boghaz Keui reveals that this symbol depicts the "house" or "temple" of the eagle.

As far as this image being used to described a "house" ....it is used in heraldry to represent the House of Doria. (I would also like to expand on this dynasty.)

In the ancient kingdom of the Hittites there was an actual temple devoted to the ceremonies of the Cappadocian Eagle Cult.

Every little bit of info helps in trying to put together a bigger picture.

My question is this: If the above quote is true, that this symbol has been around at least 7,000 years before Jesus walked the earth, then what does it represent and why has it survived so many years and passed through so many different cultures across the world?

My leads indicate it has represented a cult icon and a family dynasty. This symbol has found it's way into government symbols in various countries as well as being used in mystical brotherhood societies and even in some modern day churches. So how are all of these things linked by this symbol?
