Here's one of my favorite TED talks. Completely obliterates the idea that we're living in The Last Days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ramBFRt1Uzk
Here is the essay on which the talk is based: http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/pinker07/pinker07_index.html

This one has been posted here before, but it is amazing...
Jill Bolte Taylor's stroke of insight
Jill Bolte Taylor got a research opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: She had a massive stroke, and watched as her brain functions -- motion, speech, self-awareness -- shut down one by one. An astonishing story.
About Jill Bolte Taylor
Brain researcher Jill Bolte Taylor studied her own stroke as it happened -- and has become a powerful voice for brain recovery.

Olin Moyles Ghost: YES! I love that talk. I quote it all the time to my mom... but, it ususally makes no difference.
It is one that I would recommend to all exiting JWs.

I like TED talks too!
This one by Elizabeth Gilbert is pretty interesting,
Elizabeth Gilbert muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses -- and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person "being" a genius, all of us "have" a genius. It's a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.

and I like the Pinker talk too!

Great recommendations peoples.
Interesting to hear the experience of the professor that had the stroke, considering what's happened to Brother Ted.
Love the one too about how violence has decreased over time; plan on sharing this with my mum.
