Seriously, have you two ever read Confederates in the Attic? It's a really good non-fiction book and in it one of the characters annually goes on a "Civil Wargasm" where he visits various Civil War sites and spends the night in a tent, etc. It sounds like lots and lots of fun.

If you haven't read that book, you really should. It's good and give a unique perspective.

Seriously, if either of you were ever near Gettysburg, I'd come over for a mini-apostafest. I'd even go along with setting up a real apostafest there, but I think you're both pretty far away from PA! I'm next door in Beautiful Ohio.

I'd love a fest in Gettysburg, only about four hours away from tidewater va.....sounds like an interesting book, thanks St. Ann.

I'll add that to the reading list. Sounds good.

Jeff Daniels said that when they were filming "Gettysburg" he decided that the Civil War re-enactors they were using as extras could give lessons to professional actors about staying in character. The whole six weeks they were filming all five thousand of them slept on the ground, ate beans and drank cowboy coffee. Every time he walked by a bunch they'd stand at attention and salute. Not one of them ever called him anything but "Colonel Chamberlain."

Gettysburg is a long haul from Seattle but I hope to make it one of these days.

I thumbed through that book yeeeeears ago Anne, I need to read it, I'm a different girl now.

We went to a CW reenactment out here in a town called Knights Ferry. It's very tiny, and very old. Apparently (hope I'm getting this straight) Grants wife was from there. Anyway, it was just awesome.

My in-laws live about an hour from Gettysburg. I could be there. And would.

While we're at it if any of you history buffs make it to Seattle we have some cool stuff here. Notably this place:

Anne we are talking about a possible Christmas visit. I have no idea what Gettysburg would be like at that time of year. But I'm ready to find out!

Jeff, so is that an abandoned prison in the pics??? Is that your granddaughter in the pics? My oldest son and his girlfriend won't get married and have kids either. I'm so ready to be a grandma!

Beks, I don't know if National Parks close at Christmas time or not. My husband is generally off work for a week to 10 days over Christmas. It may just be doable!

I think that's an old bunker thingy isn't is Jeff? There are a whole bunch near SF. But they are really tight and dark. You have to be a young punk with flashlights and beer to want to go in them
