because in my middle age
i find myself parenting a
transgender adolescent,
a new avenue of political
activism has opened up
to me, as i educate myself
not only about the medical
aspect of his situation,
but about the unconscionable
inequality of the laws that
are meant to protect the rights
of america's citizens
i am now a lobbyist, ally
and an activist, as well
as a public speaker and
panelist for various
organizations, raising
awareness for the LGBTQ
community.... a passion
unleashed because i am
his mother.....
