Sure sounds like a complete waste of time. No wonder they are like that--there is nothing to excite them. No holidays or birthdays. Special trips and events have been taken away piecemeal by the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger. Everything is dumbed down, and they are recycling the same old crap to stir up the "emergency" that people are not falling for.

I didn't partake. But I also didn't waste my time looking pious.

Beautifully written post, Soledad. I also enjoyed yours, lurk3r.

I really enjoyed your reflections on attending the memorial. The way you decribed it I could feel the boredom as if I were sitting there myself. It was a trip down memory lane. And I'm glad it is now just a memory.

I was wondering if the young women still got all dolled up for the event and was going to start a thread about it but you answered my question.

I attended a church service the same night my wife was at the memorial. While sitting there I thought about the differences between the service I was attending (Episcopal) and the WT memorial and felt very happy to be where I was/am. I'm glad you understand that leaving that stale religion was the right thing for you. It isn't an easy thing to do.

Nice you could be there with both your parents and grab a pizza and socialise a bit after.

Good report Soledad. You conjure a sad, dreary and depressing scene - people going through the motions of a ritual that has lost all meaning - for them or for anyone. It seems that any connection to Christ's sacrifice is tertiary to 1) eyeballing the parade and, 2) freezing out the suspect attendees or partakers.

the sister was mentally hadicapped and couldn't find it in me to let her know my real feelings. What a sad sight. Not the 'special' sister, but the one who overshawdowed her, almost as if she was a "handler" of some sort. Using her as a tool to place magazines and invites

Isn't it interesting how JWs shamelessly use either children or the mentally-marginalised like body armor?

In the 35 years since I've attended a memorial (or any meeting), the message has clearly not been revitalized in any way.
