APPRECIATE JESUS' UNIQUE ROLE IN GOD'S PURPOSE
"l am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.--JOHN 14:6.

    OPENING COMMENTS

If any article shows how the WTS objectifies Christ rather than give a basis for a personal relationship with him, this is it. He is only an object to get to God, to get the Carrot of everlasting life.

    START OF ARTICLE

Q 1, 2. Why should we be interested in examining Jesus' unique role in God's purpose?

THROUGHOUT the ages, many have endeavoured to stand out as different from those around them, but few do. Even fewer individuals can rightly claim that they are unique in significant ways. Yet, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is unique in many ways.

    2. Why should Jesus' unique role interest us? Because our very relationship with our heavenly Father, Jehovah, is involved! Jesus said: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6; 17:3) Let us examine some of the ways in which Jesus is unique. Doing so will build our appreciation for his role in God's purpose.

    Few stand out? Proof?

should--a WTS command of what is interesting?

Where is the relationship with Jesus?

Is Jehovah a father or grandfather to the other sheep?

    Quote

    *** w95 8/1 p. 13 par. 19 Jehovah—A God Who Teaches ***
Even though the other sheep are not directly included among the “sons” spoken of at Isaiah 54:13, they are blessed with being taught by Jehovah. Therefore, they properly address God as “Father” because he will, in effect, be their Grandfather through the “Eternal Father,” Jesus Christ.—Matthew 6:9; Isaiah 9:6.

    Quote

    *** w53 4/15 p. 249 par. 10 Jehovah: Husband, Father and Teacher ***
With all prospects of life resting on God’s provisions, other Christians of good will, associated with those who are in the new covenant, properly address him as their Father, because he is to be their Grandfather through the Everlasting Father, Christ Jesus.—John 10:16, NW; Isa. 9:6, AS.

    “The Only-Begotten Son"

Q 3, 4. (a) Why can we say that Jesus is unique in his role as the only-begotten Son? (b) How was Jesus' role in creation unique?

    3. Jesus is not just "a son of God." That is how Satan referred to Jesus while tempting him. (Matt. 4:3, 6) Jesus is rightly called "the only-begotten Son of God." (John 3:16, 18) The Greek word translated "only-begotten" has been defined as "single of its kind, only," “the only member of a kin or kind," or “unique." Jehovah has hundreds of millions of spirit sons. In what sense, then, is Jesus the only one "of a kin or kind"?

    4. Jesus is unique in that he is the sole direct creation of his Father. He is the firstborn Son. In fact, he is "the firstborn of all creation." (Col. 1:15) He is "the beginning of the creation by God." (Rev. 3:14) The only-begotten Son's role in creation is also unique. He was not the Creator, or Originator, of creation. But Jehovah used him as the agent, or means, to create all other things. (Read John 1 :3.) The apostle Paul wrote: "There is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him."-1 Cor. 8:6.

And what reference or bible dictionary is the WTS using for these definitions? Although there is reference in the Insight volume, nothing is mentioned in the article. Are jws encouraged to look up information in other WT publications and bring it into the study?

    Quote

    *** it-2 p. 556 Only-begotten ***

The Greek word monogenes is defined by lexicographers as “single of its kind, only,” or “the only member of a kin or kind.” (Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, 1889, p. 417; Liddell and Scott’s Greek-English Lexicon, Oxford, 1968, p. 1144)

Where in the bible does it say there are hundreds of millions of angels...why not mentioned by WTS in this paragraph?

Q 5. How do the Scriptures highlight the uniqueness of Jesus?

    5. However, much more is involved in the uniqueness of Jesus. The Scriptures attribute to him many titles or designations that highlight his unique role in God's purpose. Let us now examine five more of these as applied to Jesus in the Christian Greek Scriptures.*

    * Some of these titles appear along with the Greek definite article, indicating that the title is, as one scholar states, "in a sense, 'in a class by itself.'"

Who is this scholar and source?

    “The Word"

Q 6. Why is it appropriate that Jesus is called "the Word"?

    6. Read John 1:14. Why is Jesus called "the Word," or Logos? This title identifies the function that he has performed since other intelligent creatures came into existence. Jehovah used his Son to convey information and instructions to other spirit sons, even as God used that Son to deliver His message to humans on earth. The fact that Jesus is the Word, or God's Spokesman, is echoed in what Christ said to his Jewish listeners: “ If What I teach is not mine, but belongs to him that sent me. If anyone desires to do His will, he will know concerning the teaching whether it is from God or I speak of my own originality. If (John 7:16, 17) Jesus continues to bear the title “The Word of God” even after his return to heavenly glory.-Rev. 19:11, 13,16.

So Jesus is a "function," a device to convey information? Does this mean God never talked to the angels directly? Does the WTS teach that every time an angel was used to speak to humans, it had to be Jesus?

Q 7. How can we imitate the humility Jesus shows in his role as "the Word"?

    7. Just think about what this title implies. Although Jesus is the wisest of all of Jehovah's creatures, he does not rely on his own wisdom. He speaks as his Father instructs him. He always directs attention to Jehovah rather than to himself. (John 12:50) What a wonderful example for us to imitate! We too have been entrusted with the precious privilege to declare good news of good things. (Rom. 10:15) Appreciation for Jesus' example of humility should move us to avoid speaking of our own initiative. When it comes to conveying the lifesaving message in the Scriptures, we do not want to “go beyond the things that are written.” -1 Cor. 4:6.

Jesus relies on God's wisdom = jws must rely on WTS/FDS/GB wisdom?

So is the WTS the same as God when it comes to wisdom except when they are wrong and then they fall back on the "imperfect men" excuse?

1 Corinthians 4:6--has the WTS gone beyond the things written? Does the WTS make their guidelines equal to the Bible?

Our view of others is very limited compared to Jehovah’s, who reads the heart. (1 Chronicles 28:9) Appreciating this will prevent us from becoming modern-day, self-righteous Pharisees, trying to press people into our own man-made mold of righteousness in order that they might fit our concept of what is correct. If we try to see people as God sees them, we will not require more of them than he does. We will “not go beyond the things that are written.” (1 Corinthians 4:6)

    Quote

    *** w06 5/1 p. 19 par. 11 Shepherds Who Are “Examples to the Flock” ***
After praying for holy spirit, they base their decisions on Bible principles and on guidelines published by “the faithful and discreet slave.” (Matthew 24:45-47; 1 Corinthians 4:6)

    "The Amen"

8, 9. a) What does the word "amen" mean, and why is Jesus called "the Amen"? (b) How did Jesus fulfill his role as "the Amen"?

    8. Read Revelation 3:14. Why is Jesus called "the Amen:? The word rendered "amen" is a transliteration of a Hebrew word that means "so be it," or "surely." The Hebrew root word from which it is drawn means to "be faithful" or If trustworthy. If This same word is used to describe Jehovah's faithfulness. (Deut. 7:9; Isa. 49:7) So in what way is Jesus unique when he is referred to as If the Amen"? Notice how 2 Corinthians 1:19, 20 answers: If The Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you ... , did not become Yes and yet No, but Yes has become Yes in his case. For no matter how many the promises of God are, they have become Yes by means of him. Therefore also through him is the 'Amen' said to God for glory."

    9. Jesus is "the Amen" to all the divine promises. His flawless life course on earth, including his sacrificial death, confirmed and made possible the fulfillment of all the promises of Jehovah God. By remaining faithful, Jesus also proved false Satan's claim, recorded in the book of Job, that under privation, suffering, and test, God's servants would deny Him. (Job 1:6-12; 2:2-7) Of all God's creatures, the firstborn Son could give the most conclusive answer to that charge. In addition, Jesus provided the finest evidence supporting his Father's side in the greater issue of the rightfulness of Jehovah’s universal sovereignty.

So what resource is the WTS using in regard to the transliteration of a Hebrew word, or the root word?

faithful to God not an organization

    Quote

    *** w65 7/1 p. 412 Faithful and Loyal to God’s Organization ***
To be faithful to God we must be faithful to his visible organization. For most of these ministers their association with God’s organization is primarily with the local congregation. What does it mean to be faithful to it?—1 Cor. 4:2; 1 Pet. 4:10.
It means being dependable in bearing one’s share of the burdens of the local congregation. It means being regular in meeting attendance, giving both one’s spiritual and material support. It means being willing to accept an assignment and then proving oneself dependable by properly preparing for it and carrying it out, regardless of how humble a part it may be. It also means being dependable in the little details of the field ministry.—Luke 16:10.

The WTS taught the vindication of God's name for years before changing it to the vindication of God's sovereignty.

    Quote

    *** w95 5/15 p. 25 par. 17 Part 2—Flashes of Light—Great and Small ***

Similarly, for a long time, Witnesses spoke of the vindication of Jehovah’s name. But had Satan called Jehovah’s name into question? For that matter, had any of Satan’s agents done so, as if Jehovah did not have a right to that name? No, not at all. It was not the name of Jehovah that was challenged and that needed to be vindicated. That is why the Watch Tower Society’s recent publications do not speak of Jehovah’s name as being vindicated. They speak of Jehovah’s sovereignty as being vindicated and of his name as being sanctified. This is in keeping with what Jesus told us to pray: “Let your name be sanctified.” (Matthew 6:9) Time and again, Jehovah said that he was going to sanctify his name, which the Israelites had not challenged but had profaned.—Ezekiel 20:9, 14, 22; 36:23.

    10. How can we imitate Jesus in his unique role as "the Amen"?

    10. How can we imitate Jesus in his unique role as "the Amen"? By remaining faithful to Jehovah and supporting his universal sovereignty. In so doing, we will be responding positively to the request recorded at Proverbs 27:11: If Be wise, my son, and make my heart rejoice, that I may make a reply to him that is taunting me."

As see above, according to the WTS being faithful to God means being faithful to the WTS.

"The Mediator of a New Covenant"

Q 11, 12. How is Jesus' role as Mediator unique?

    11. Read 1 Timothy 2:5, 6. Jesus is the “one mediator between God and men." He is If the mediator of a new covenant." (Heb. 9:15; 12: 24) However, Moses is also spoken of as a mediator--the mediator of the Law covenant. (Gal. 3:19) How, then, is Jesus' role as Mediator unique?

    12. The original-language word translated "mediator" is a legal term. It refers to Jesus as a legal Mediator (or, in a sense, an attorney) of the new covenant that made possible the birth of a new nation, If the Israel of God.1f (Gal. 6:16) This nation is composed of spirit-anointed Christians, who form a heavenly "royal priesthood." (1 Pet. 2:9; Ex. 19:6) The Law covenant, with Moses as mediator, was not able to produce a nation like that.

But 1 Timothy 2:5,6 is discussing prayer through Jesus to God. How then does it apply only to spirit-anointed Christians. How do other jws pray then?

    Quote

    *** w66 8/1 p. 465 par. 16 Baptism Shows Faith ***
When one makes his dedication he prays to Jehovah in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son, the Mediator between God and man.

    Quote

    *** g74 1/8 p. 10 What Do You Know About Prayer? ***

To be acceptable to God, prayers must be through the channel he recognizes. Jesus said: “No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus also said prayers should be presented ‘in his name.’ (John 14:6; 16:23) Thus, our prayers should acknowledge that the value of the sacrifice of Jesus’ own human life makes it possible for us to approach God in prayer, and that there is just “one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus.”—1 Tim. 2:5.

Q 13. What is involved in Jesus' role as Mediator?

    13. What does Jesus' role as Mediator involve? Well, Jehovah applies the value of Jesus' blood to those being brought into the new covenant. In this way, Jehovah legally credits them with righteousness. (Rom. 3:24; Heb. 9:15) God can then take them into the new covenant with the prospect of their becoming heavenly king-priests! As their Mediator, Jesus assists them in maintaining a clean standing before God.-Heb. 2:16.

What proof is there that mediator is a legal term? Reference?

Q 14. Why should all Christians, whatever their hope, truly appreciate Jesus' role as Mediator?

    14. What about those who are not in the new covenant, those who hope to live forever on earth, not in heaven? While not participants in the new covenant, these are beneficiaries of it. They receive forgiveness of their sins and are declared righteous as God's friends. (Jas. 2:23; 1 John 2:1,2) Whether we have a heavenly hope or an earthly hope, each one of us has good reason to appreciate Jesus' role as the Mediator of the
    new covenant.

    all Christians--only jws

How are the 144,000 perfect in an instant after resurrection but it takes the other sheep 1,000 years?

Where does it say that there is a secondary group of Christians that are only beneficiaries?

    "High Priest"

Q 15. How is Jesus' role as High Priest different from that of all other men who have served as high priests?

    15. Many men have served as high priests in the past, yet Jesus' role as High Priest is truly unique. How so? Paul explains: "He does not need daily, as those high priests do, to offer up sacrifices, first for his own sins and then for those of the people: (for this he did once for all time when he offered himself up;) for the Law appoints men high priests having weakness, but the word of the sworn oath that came after the Law appoints a Son, who is perfected forever." -Heb. 7:27, 28.*

*According to one Bible scholar, the word translated "once for all time" expresses an important Biblical concept that "suggests the definiteness, uniqueness, or singularity of the death of Christ."

Q 16. Why is Jesus' sacrifice truly unique?

    16. Jesus was a perfect man, the exact equal of Adam before that one sinned. (1 Cor. 15: 45) As such, Jesus was the only human to be in a position to offer up a perfect, complete sacrifice--the type of sacrifice without any need to be repeated. Under the Mosaic Law, sacrifices were offered on a daily basis. All such sacrifices and priestly services were a mere shadow, though, of what Jesus was to accomplish. (Heb. 8:5; 10:1) So in its effectiveness and permanence, Jesus' office as High Priest is unique.

Since there was no law and code of sacrifices in Eden, why was the pattern of a sacrifice needed?

Q 17. Why should we appreciate Jesus' role as our High Priest, and how can we do so?

17 We need the services of Jesus as High Priest to help us have a right standing with God. And what a wonderful High Priest we have! "We have as high priest, not one who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses," wrote Paul, "but one who has been tested in all respects like ourselves, but without sin." (Heb. 4:15) Truly, appreciation of this fact should move us to 'live no longer for ourselves, but for him who died for us.'-2 Cor. 5:14,15; Luke 9:23.

Live for Christ or the WTS?

    The Foretold "Seed"

Q 18. What prophecy was uttered after Adam sinned, and what was later revealed concerning this prophecy?

    18. Back in Eden, when it appeared that mankind had lost everything--a clean standing with God, everlasting life, happiness, and Paradise-Jehovah God foretold a Deliverer. This one was referred to as the "seed." (Gen. 3:15) This mystery Seed became a theme of numerous Bible prophecies down through the ages. He was to be a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Also, he was to be in the line of King David.--Gen. 21:12; 22:1618; 28:14; 2 Sam. 7:12-16.

CARROT: everlasting life, happiness, and Paradise

Q 19, 20. (a) Who is the promised Seed? (b) Why can it be said that the foretold seed includes more than Jesus?

    19. Who was this promised Seed? The answer to this question can be found at Galatians 3:16. (Read.) However, later in the same chapter, the apostle Paul goes on to say to anointed Christians: "Moreover, if you belong to Christ, you are really Abraham's seed, heirs with reference to a promise." (Gal. 3:29) How is it that Christ is the promised Seed, and yet others too are included?

Were the early Christians called "Jehovah's Witnesses"?

    Quote

(Revelation 1:9) . . .I John, YOUR brother and a sharer with YOU in the tribulation and kingdom and endurance in company with Jesus, came to be in the isle that is called Patmos for speaking about God and bearing witness to Jesus.

(Revelation 17:6) 6 And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus.. . .

    (Acts 1:

    20. Millions claim to have descended from Abraham, some even acting as prophets. Some religions place great importance on the claim that their prophets descended from Abraham. But are all of these the promised Seed? No. As the apostle Paul points out under inspiration, not all of Abraham's descendants can claim to be the promised Seed. The offspring of Abraham's other sons were not used to bless humankind. The seed of blessing was to be through Isaac alone. (Heb. 11:18) Ultimately, only one man, Jesus Christ, whose genealogy from Abraham is documented in the Bible, is the primary part of that foretold seed.* All others who later become the secondary part of Abraham's seed are such because they "belong to Christ." Yes, Jesus' role in fulfilling this prophecy is truly unique.

*Even though the Jews in the first century C.E. thought that they, as Abraham's literal offspring, or descendants, would be the favored people, they looked for one person to come as the Messiah, or Christ.-John 1: 25; 7:41, 42; 8:39-41.

    Some religions--which ones?

    Other sons--who?

    Footnote--resource?

Q 21. What impresses you about the way Jesus has fulfilled his unique role in Jehovah's purpose?

    21. What have we learned from this brief review of Jesus' unique role in Jehovah's purpose? From the time of his creation onward, God's only-begotten Son has truly been unique, one of a kind. However, this unique Son of God who became Jesus has always humbly served in harmony with the will of his Father, never seeking glory for himself. (John 5:41; 8:50) What an outstanding example for us today! like Jesus, may we make it our goal to "do all things for God's glory."-1 Cor. 10:31.

one of a kind--aren't we all unique, one of a kind?

    Do You Remember?

*The High Priest. (Heb. 7:27,28) Jesus was the only human to be in a position to offer a perfect sacrifice, one that did not need to be repeated. He can cleanse us from sin and free us from its death-dealing effects.
*The Promised Seed. (Gen. 3:15) Only one man, Jesus Christ, is the primary part of that foretold seed. All others who later become the secondary part of Abraham's seed "belong to Christ."--Gal. 3:29

    CONCLUDING COMMENTS

I'm so glad I won't be there tomorrow. The title should really be "Appreciate the WTS Unique Role in God's Purpose." jws are told that they cannot get to Jesus or God except through the WTS. It is not surprising that many jws are afraid to leave the WTS despite all the evidences that they are not following Christ in their actions. The Carrot is a strong motivation.

This article continues to highlight the Society's policy that Christ is the mediator for only the 144,000. Whenever I say to someone... "the Society teaches that Christ is not our mediator", they are usually shocked.

Let's hope a few will see through this offensive and self-serving teaching.

    Thanks Blondie...

This does not surprise me, this quoting "scholars" in their footnotes without properly attributing the quote, or more likely taking a quote out of context to suit the purposes of the Society.

I have found this particular set of phenomena prevalent in my college courses as well. Except that it is no longer phenomena, it is now commonplace. In one of my online discussion forums for college (macroeconomics), one assignment each week is to address whatever topic question(s) are provided by the instructor and use scholarly resources to back up our postings. I do not believe that proper scholarly research is taught in high school, based on the postings I see on the online course forum. Fellow students either give their own Big Media influenced, biased opinion or they quote wikipedia, an ever changing, unverified, unvetted internet resource that is great for throwing trivial facts to the wind, but not acceptable for scholarly research. Some so-called research links even end in .blogspot.com. When was a blog considered a legitimate research source?

When I mentioned this sad fact to the instructor (in person and via email), he told me that this is what is coming out of the education system these days. This instructor has been teaching at this college for three decades plus...before it was its current incarnation. He says he addresses it privately but it does no good. He agreed that students are lazy in their so-called "research."

I provide that anectdote to just show that WTBTS writers are not alone in their poor "research" methodology. Since WTBTS/GB does not encourage anything past a high school education anyway, are we surprised by the continued degradation of already poor writing by the Watchtower Society? I am not. The Society is aiming for the lowest common denominator in the education level of its members. Quite honestly, it is the only reason that they recruit or retain anyone in the Jehovah's Witness "religion." Anyone with half a brain, and no emotional or familial ties to the religion, won't put up with it. I feel for those who know JW is a crock o' $hit and have to keep going to keep family ties.

Why wasn't there an earthly hope for christians untill 1935?(or whatever their date was)

Before Rutherford realized there was an earthly class of christians, millions of false christians drank Jesus's cup unworthily.

Imagine all the people Jehovah will not resurrect.

p7 Appreciation for Jesus' example of humility should move us to avoid speaking of our own initiative. When it comes to conveying the lifesaving message in the Scriptures, we do not want to “go beyond the things that are written.” -1 Cor. 4:6.

Wha -at ?, How many times has the WTS ,gone beyond the things written ; eg.

forecasting dates, banning smoking, banning birthdays, deciding what parts of blood a Witness may accept in their body, rules on dress, telling you what music to like........and no doubt many more examples.

How do they have the nerve to write this stuff. It is odds on that many of the flock think of the same thing, but the constraints of dissonance just mean they will shrug it off.

    Blondie's comment on the mediator made me think. (hey it is good to be free to think these days)..The article says."The original-language word translated "mediator" is a legal term. It refers to Jesus as a legal Mediator (or, in a sense, an attorney) of the new covenant (p12)", but Blondie is right . In the key scripture that all congs must read aloud at that point I Tim 2.5 The subject is not the covenant at all, but approach to God in prayer, and that applies to all men . A named and attested scholar - W E Vine "Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words", said ;

    "Mediator:

lit., "a go-between" (from mesos, "middle," and eimi, "to go"), is used in two ways in the NT,

    (a) "one who mediates" between two parties with a view to producing peace, as in 1Ti 2:5, though more than mere "mediatorship" is in view, for the salvation of men necessitated that the Mediator should Himself possess the nature and attributes of Him towards whom He acts, and should likewise participate in the nature of those for whom He acts (sin apart); only by being possessed both of deity and humanity could He comprehend the claims of the one and the needs of the other; further, the claims and the needs could be met only by One who, Himself being proved sinless, would offer Himself an expiatory sacrifice on behalf of men;

    (b) "one who acts as a guarantee" so as to secure something which otherwise would not be obtained. Thus in Hbr 8:6; 9:15; 12:24 Christ is the Surety of "the better covenant," "the new covenant," guaranteeing its terms for His people. "

So he says that the primary meaning , as used in 1 Timothy 2.5 , is a simple go between, the legal guarantee of a covenant is something else.

I am no scholar, but it makes sense to me and IMHO the WT are confusing the two meanings.

The contrast in tone in this Watchtower with the church service we've just attended is incredible. The theme of the sermon at church was "A Different Class" and it covered Luke 8:40-46. The preacher said, "The greatest thing about Christianity is Jesus". The message, as it was in the 1st C, was very simple; Jesus.

Yet, this WT article is cloudy and muddy on the issues of Christ's primary role. The WTS say Christ's primary purpose in living and dying on earth was to 'vindicate Jehovah's universal sovereignty', yet not one single scripture can be produced which Biblically backs this core teaching up. The Bible does, however, speak about Christ demonstrating God's love for people by dying for them, dying so that they aren't condemned for their sins. How much of the WT article is taken up with that? Not much. The reason? That would be too much like what 'Christendom' teaches in her churches.

And where in the Bible does it explain two classes of people; one class who have Christ as mediator and are forgiven as a result, and another class who don't have Christ as mediator but are forgiven due to being 'friends of God'. No, sorry, it doesn't work like that. The 'friends of God' are those who have Christ as mediator and are forgiven in God's sight as a result.

I'm pretty surprised the WTS are, in such a bald way, outlining that the R&F don't have Christ as their mediator. They don't usually talk about that much. I wonder how many JWs today at the meeting will be thinking, "Whaaaaaa'? Christ isn't my mediator??!". For example, I didn't learn that until March 2008 and it contributed to my eventual exit from the WTS.

Here you have an article that was deliberately written so confusing that people have a miserably difficult time trying to understand it. That is so they get the illusion that they need the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger to interpret the Bible for them. And they need this same Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger to understand what should be so simple: what Jesus was supposed to have accomplished.

The reality is, if the truth is supposed to be so simple and easy for anyone to understand, then why do they need to make it this difficult for anyone to comprehend without the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger?

Blondie, as usual, you have done an impeccable job of detective work for those who have been able to break free from the control of the WTS. Personally, as time has passed, my ability to be a critical thinker has grown. Since I was so young (14) when I first became involved through my mom in the JW cult, and grew up in a very small, isolated community, it is a no brainer that I was so easily influenced. And, even though I knew even at 14 that the jw's were full of s**t, because of the personal circumstances in my family, I had no outside support system, and so, had to go along with my mom's wishes. But, the dissonance remained in my psyche, and when the time came for me to break free, I did. That is why it is so important that we continue to share in our own personal ways, our stories and our knowledge, and help others to break free.

    3. Jesus is not just "a son of God." That is how Satan referred to Jesus while tempting him. (Matt. 4:3, 6) Jesus is rightly called "the only-begotten Son of God." (John 3:16, 18) The Greek word translated "only-begotten" has been defined as "single of its kind, only," "the only member of a kin or kind," or "unique." Jehovah has hundreds of millions of spirit sons. In what sense, then, is Jesus the only one "of a kin or kind"?

A bit off the topic, but if Jesus "is not just ‘a son of God' and if his role is unique, then why does Daniel 10:13 refer to Michael the Archangel----whom the Borganization teaches is really Jesus--- as "one of the foremost princes"? If Michael is Jesus, wouldn't it refer to him as THE foremost prince?? But of course, we can't let common sense interfere with the WT studies......

Appreciation for Jesus' example of humility should move us to avoid speaking of our own initiative. When it comes to conveying the lifesaving message in the Scriptures, we do not want to "go beyond the things that are written." -1 Cor. 4:6.

Oh don't make me gag.....Free Smiley Face The literature constantly "goes beyond what is written" in order to promote their wacko doctrines and to maintain total control over your life. Here's just a few rules that the WTS has that are found NOWHERE in the bible:

    • Forbidding blood transfusions
    • Forbidding the celebration of any secular holiday
    • Equating the door to door method of preaching with eternal salvation
    • Teaching that most Christians will not go to heaven
    • Teaching that the Second Coming is ‘invisible'
    • Equating standing for the national anthem with ‘idol worship'
    • Teaching that Jesus is the Mediator for only 144,000
    • Forbidding an open and close examination either of their own history, or even of other religions unless it's under their ‘guidance'.

    Need I go on?

Read 1 Timothy 2:5, 6. Jesus is the "one mediator between God and men." He is If the mediator of a new covenant." (Heb. 9:15; 12: 24) However, Moses is also spoken of as a mediator-the mediator of the Law covenant. (Gal. 3:19) How, then, is Jesus' role as Mediator unique? The original-language word translated "mediator" is a legal term. It refers to Jesus as a legal Mediator (or, in a sense, an attorney) of the new covenant that made possible the birth of a new nation, "the Israel of God." (Gal. 6:16) This nation is composed of spirit-anointed Christians, who form a heavenly "royal priesthood." (1 Pet. 2:9; Ex. 19:6) The Law covenant, with Moses as mediator, was not able to produce a nation like that.

Um, here's a silly question: If Moses was "not able to produce a nation like that", then why are they even comparing Jesus' role to his? Moses never came to earth to die for all mankind, was not the Son of God and had a completely different role. Since the Society itself teaches that Jesus died for all mankind:

"inasmuch as the Lamb of God died for all mankind, not for just one people or nation."--- Mar 1, 1978 w78 p 21 par. 3

    " Finally, he died for all mankind on a torture stake."----Jan 1 2001 WT p. 12 par. 17

why do they teach that he is only the Mediator for a few??? If he died for "all mankind" then the logical conclusion is that he is the Mediator for "all mankind" too, just as 1 Timothy depicts. Free Smiley Face

As their Mediator, Jesus assists them in maintaining a clean standing before

It is obvious that they are applying this crap to the Slobbering Body members, with the assertion that they have already been "credited with righteousness" and have "maintained a clean standing", despite the fact that their dismal record of failed prophecies and twisting of the scriptures has caused irreparable harm to millions of people.

Millions claim to have descended from Abraham, some even acting as prophets.

Well duuuuh......of course there are millions who claim this. Probably because they are descended from Abraham. Just because the records were all destroyed in 70 CE doesn't mean that suddenly you don't have the same lineage anymore. Surely God knows who you're descended from.

Some religions place great importance on the claim that their prophets descended from Abraham.

Of course they do, because these groups believe it's something to be proud of, both historically and religiously. Both Jews and Muslims claim direct lineage to Abraham; one through Isaac, one through Ishmael. This has always been a point of pride as we can see in the opening chapter of Matthew where it gives Jesus lineage. If tracing your ancestory wasn't important at all, then why does the bible even mention it??

Another boring, stupid study that does absolutely nothing except promote legalistic mumbo-jumbo which is exactly what Jesus condemned the Pharisees for.
