Just speaking from personal experience.
I know what you mean about the economy & degrees. I based my choices on well-researched job projections, but they've all proven false because the economy/licensing has changed significantly and in an unexpected way. Now I am finding I need a different degree in order to compete better. But @ this age, I need to weigh the benefits vs. the cost. College is not cheap......not to mention the lost time.
I don't know what the answer is, really. I am trying to make the most of what I do have--connections, knowledge, etc.
What I find really tragic is that you can't be matriculated into most college programs without committing 6-9 credit hours per semester, making it inaccessible for many people. Gawd, if one course per semester was allowed, I'd have a doctorate.........
