Oh, but that loser brother later tried to make a fortune off D'Anconia's copper mines and it bit him in the ass!!!!

D'Anconia went John Galt. He'd draw the looters into investing in his busnesses and then let them get nationalized by their host countries. He used their own weapon against them.

Money is not the root of evil. Love of money is not the root of evil.

There are three roots of all evil. Laziness, dishonesty, and envy. If all these were eliminated, the love of money could become the root of good instead of evil. People would be able to create great new products that would benefut all mankind, and become extremely wealthy in the process. The "greedier" they become, the more value they create, and the better off everyone would become.

Ayn Rand wrote a great epic book, but it was fiction. Her style was to create characters that were one dimensional idealized archetypes. She created them the way she wanted them to be. A good read, though tiring for someone as terse as myself.

The real world is a lot more messy. There are industrialists who buy legislators in order to game the system in their favor. Many honest, hard working people are not wealthy, but are even poor in this system. Significantly, money is not an inherent store of wealth, but instead it is ledger entries and is created from nothing, loaned or granted into the system, and then collected with interest. It gets granted to the connected who do not necessarily offer value for it. Money, even in this corrupt form, is simply a tool. People who set up systems to game it at the expense of taking value from others are evil.

    One of Humanism's highest expressions.

Humanism expresses the need for the other. In isolation, humans tend to be irrational.

Humanism features an optimistic attitude about the capacity of people, but it does not involve believing that human nature is purely good or that all people can live up to the Humanist ideals without help. If anything, there is the recognition that living up to one's potential is hard work and requires the assistance of others. The ultimate goal is human flourishing; making life better for all humans, and as the most conscious species, also promoting concern for the welfare of other sentient beings and the planet as a whole. The focus is on doing good and living well in the here and now, and leaving the world a better place for those who come after.
