A great Republican

    Great speech.

Not too long ago two friends of mine were talking to a Cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my friends turned to the other and said, "We don't know how lucky we are." And the Cuban stopped and said, "How lucky you are! I had someplace to escape to." In that sentence he told us the entire story. If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth. And this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except to sovereign people, is still the newest and most unique idea in all the long history of man's relation to man.

The actions didn't always follow the rhetoric, but no one is perfect.

And now we can add the "Cuban Businessman" to the likes of the atheist professor, the evil apostate. My, urban legends are fun.

I wonder if snopes.com has anything on Cuban businessman?

One more thought.......Democracy and government being beholden to the people are not new ideas. Our founding fathers borrowed from the ancient Greeks, the Romans, some minor principles common in England, and the ideologies of the French Revolution. What was special was our constitution. That binding document which layed out the concept of liberty, which set up the system of checks and balances between the 3 branches of our government, and which placed itself as the protector of it's citizenry.

And then came Pres. George W. Bush with hatred, fear, and the Patriot Act. Then came eight years of effort to shred our Constitution. We the people allowed it to happen for a while, but we spoke last November! In the end our Constitution prevailed and the enemies of true freedom prevailed.

A great many people would fit the profile of the individual mentioned in Reagan's speech.

And then came Pres. George W. Bush with hatred, fear, and the Patriot Act.

Bush is only the latest in a long series of Presidents that have acted unconstitutionally, some have acted far worse in this regard.

It's interesting to watch this speech, and then watch his farewell speech. 25 years, and his motivations seemed intact.

Yep, his motivation to screw the middle class and ruin 200 years of progress.

I always thought Ronald Reagan was a decent man, good communicator, and that he wanted a strong US. He didn't embarass me, and when he embarassed himself, he seemed to have the humility to deal with it.

    Republicans ...

    Got to love them.

When I think of Republicans I think of George W. Bush. He is the one. The best. The one that all Republicans should adore. After 8 years in office, he has guided the nation to where we are today. We are at the top of the world!!!

Thinking back, who would ever want to live again under that jackass Clinton who left us after 8 years in office with a major recession, plummetting home values, a huge drop in the stock market and no hope in sight.

Thank God George W. Bush rescued us from that hell.
