2034 - it gives virtually all GB members loads of time until they are dead or in very old age

The mechanisms of this religion has always been impressed fear and guilt placed on to the interested ones or the followers that they have captured and controlled,

they could quite possibly continue on with this self supporting aspiration indefinitely based those expressions.

My personal guess is that they could imply the end is near a hundred years from now and still probably gather a decent following being human

    psychology for what it is.

It has always been tricky running an end-times Armageddon cult without a date.

Perhaps the WTS leadership may consider technology to be the new bete noir....

Mathematician and author Vernor Vinge greatly popularized Good’s notion of an intelligence explosion in the 1980s, calling the creation of the first ultraintelligent machine the Singularity. Vinge first addressed the topic in print in the January 1983 issue of Omni magazine. Vinge (1993) contains the oft-quoted statement, "Within thirty years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly thereafter, the human era will be ended." Vinge refines his estimate of the time scales involved, adding, "I'll be surprised if this event occurs before 2005 or after 2030."

Well, they could start holing people up in monasteries. They would still go out in field circus, but they would live in the monastery instead of private homes. They would get up at 5:00 AM, assemble for field circus, stay out (with regroupings at the monastery at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM) all day, and have a boasting session every evening at 7:30 PM. Then they would go to bed, and get up the next morning and do it again.

That would have several advantages. First, the Kingdumb Hell would be right there in the monastery. The hounders would be able to watch everyone all the time. No excuse for missing a boasting session or not going out in field circus. No one would ever be able to go inactive. They would not have any access to apostate literature or web sites. The Washtowel littera-trash could be distributed at the dormitories (where everyone sleeps) and studied during designated study hours. And, they would have zero Christmas decorations within the monastery (unlike city streets, where one could have them shining in from nearby houses).

And, that would stop people from ever leaving. If they were all in monasteries, no one would ever be able to move out. They would have zero personal property, and thus not be able to start on their own. There would be no freedom for anyone to do anything without the lead hounder's permission. Leaving (and hence, breaking any of the rules) would create impossible hardships; people would then be in for life regardless. And, if they ever decided to pass real Kool-Aid, it would be much easier than rounding everyone up for a special boasting session that half would probably miss.

    Hey V,

It seems to me that the GB is opening the door for others to do the speculating for them. While the Watchtower tries to create urgency without proof, it's left to the CO, local elders, or any other nutjob to promote "evidence" of immediate armageddon from pure speculation.

Having "enjoyed" the "privilege" of "serving" in "the House of God" in "close association" with both Teaching and Writing Committees, I think Writing would have reason to be much more conservative and avoid printing any speculation. For example, Writing is likely to put in print that the current economic crisis is proof that we are living in the Last Days(tm) and that Satan's system is doomed. Then it would be left to Teaching to put parts on DCs, SADs, CAs, and CO talks whipping up speculation about the economy, as well as events in the Middle East proving that "the Great Tribulation may have already started" and "the preaching work is done". Then years down the road when somebody says, "Hey, didn't they say the GT had already started?", they'll simply be told that what they heard was someone "running ahead of the Organization."

When I was in Bethel, there was speculation on 2005, since it was 30 years after 1975. They dared not to put anything in print, and the explanation was rather complex and beyond the grasp of the average dub. 2005 never took root, which was fortunate for the JW clergy.

Since they have already banned the recording of any program at Bethel, I suppose they'll next ban the recording of any assembly.

Since they have already banned the recording of any program at Bethel, I suppose they'll next ban the recording of any assembly.

they already 'discourage' distribution of such:

"Some individuals may make tape recordings of congregation meetings or assembly and convention programs for their personal use. Such recordings may also be appreciated by members of the congregation who for some good reason are not able to be present at the meetings. However, these should not be made for distribution among the brothers in general or offered for sale to others." Kindom Ministry March 1990 p3 Question Box

Difficult to enforce with handheld digital devices that are also phones, cameras etc - would need some heavy-handed attending to make it work.

would need some heavy-handed attending to make it work.

They would also need to specifically villify YouTube as an apostate spewing site (which could drive curious dubs to watch questionable videos!)

The only thing urgently needed up in NY is a new schitck........ (pure worship ain't flying when the organization is so fraught with impurity......Rutherford had a bright moment in his drunken stupor.....Religion (as defined during his time) is a racket and a snare!

All the attending trapped warm bodies in westernized countries won't make a difference if only a small percentage actually donate to the corporation

Yea Yea we know Jesus chose the IBSAs allegedly in 1914, but unfortunately we live in the information age and can readily leaf through the FM as well as Russell's writings were he says the IBSA has had Jesus' backing since 1874...........

Besides how can Jesus chose a denomination and let them know they are chosen if no one in the organization is inspired? Doesn't the bible warn that even if angels declare something other then the gospel message they should be ignored?

WTS lurker (hiya, I know this must be the hightlight of your bethel experience, we all look forward to your officially joining the froum once you leave Bethel and putting in your 2 cents worth!)...... Please pass on to those who have you lurking that morale is very low, Ted had his run, time to mainstream or start closing shop! All in Austin area appreciate not having to drive to Dallas/FW for the next DC, though those who attended in San Angelo are pissed, I mean really really pissed!...200 miles is nothing to sneeze at especially as gas prices are starting to climb....expect that to come out of donations!.......PS 1914 didn't happen....Rutherford didn't even mention it in the WT until 1922..... and probably only because he was trying to up the sells of his Millions book and 1925 prediction....... gone are those easy days of deception (at least in westernized countries).

Spot on, besty. It's at the live performances where the stupidest stuff is said. As noted in some other threads, even the GB and Bethel 'heavies' need to be kept under wraps for their embarrassing speculations devoid of any scriptural foundation. The Corporation wants the dubs excited about nonsense, but they don't want "false prophecy" pinned on them.
