    Do you really think it was better to be alive 100 years ago, 200 years ago or 300 years ago than it is to be alive right now? If these ``Last Days'' have been so unprecedently rough on humanity, how is it that a global population of 1.6 billion in 1900 has burgeoned into one of more than 6 million in just one century, after centuries of slow or even no growth?

    The answer that stares us in the face is: the diminishing impact of wars, famines and pestilence as negative influences on the total global population.

    Even with all of our current ills, inequities and all-but-intractible problems, the simple fact is that human life on this planet has never been better for a larger proportion of the world's population than right now.
