Chances are, he is drinking. I have noticed that pattern--he will post heavily for a while, and then get into a drinking binge when he hardly posts (or doesn't post at all). Then he will get off the bottle and start posting again.
I would assume he should be back, if not here, then on JWS, soon enough.
