Two sad notes - just heard that Pink Floyd founder and keyboardist Richard Wright has died of cancer at 65.

Also, a remarkable writer, David Foster Wallace, hung himself last Friday. He was 46, gifted, and had long battled depression. There is a terrific tribute to him in today's NY Times.

A salute to two great creative forces of our time. May your work carry on for you both.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move, but I can’t hear what you’re saying.

When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look, but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child has grown, the dream is gone.

    I have become comfortably numb.

    What sad news regarding both.

(Shine on, you crazy diamonds.) I hope that they have found peace and joy at last.

How sad. Definately a great loss. They gave a lot of joy to many through their music.

Very sad,Richard was not that old really. Some classic music came out of his brain.

    Wish you were here.

    All that you touch
    All that you see
    All that you taste
    All you feel.
    All that you love
    All that you hate
    All you distrust
    All you save.
    All that you give
    All that you deal
    All that you buy,
    Beg, borrow or steal.
    All you create
    All you destroy
    All that you do
    All that you say.
    All that you eat
    And everyone you meet
    All that you slight
    And everyone you fight.
    All that is now
    All that is gone
    All thats to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

Life can feel so incredibly painful at times. I can empathize with anyone with crushing depression who can't see the dawn on the horizon. Very sad. Pink Floyd: I was thinking, while watching a 60's concert during pledge drive over the weekend, Wow, the 60's Youth generation sure is looking more like senior citizens every year. I'm coming up on birthday 50.

I heard of Rick Wright's passing coming home. So sad. Such great music. The latter two probably my favourites.

i don't normally get affected by death esp of folk not close to me and esp esp of 'stars'..

but i feel sad about this..

didnt know he was ill..he obviously chose to keep it quiet rather than do a 'hello' spread...and i hope he died peacefully and as dignified as cancer allows you to be.

his playing may not have been 'technical' (thank goodness) it may even on occasion have been quiet and 'simple' . but it was always exactly what was needed and for that it was perfect.

    r.i.p. mr richard wright
