I found it amusing and perplexing to hear them attribute their philanthropy-consciousness to their Jehovah's Witness faith. The Watchtower organization foments a very distorted view of charity and philanthropy within it's ranks. The Watchtower insists that going door to door and distributing it's periodicles is the most superior way to help mankind.

The fact that this couple gives so much of their money away to help others is truly commendable. But the Watchtower faith does not view charitable, philanthropic organizations as a having any relevance or validity when compared to its own work. Such organizations are part of this "dying old system" of which there is no redeeming qualities; according to the WT. Prominent JWs are merely acting as apologists when they try to persuade the public into believing otherwise.

I wonder if they've been told by elders that their donations really should go to the world wide work...

Politics: Doesn't consider himself political, but contributes to campaigns on both sides of the aisle. That year, he also gave $40,000 to the Republican Party of Florida.

    "Pet Causes":

.Health care, education and the arts. The Wallaces gave $5-million to the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute for breast cancer research. They gave more than $1-million to build the Gorrie Coliseum at Gorrie Elementary School. Other beneficiaries: Tampa General Hospital, the University of Tampa, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Joshua House, the Spring of Tampa Bay and the Lowry Park Zoo, among many.
