  Silly silly Minimus. you framed the question incorrectly. You assume that while the d2d is ineffective, it is a means to find new disciples.

  Wrong,

  The d2d preaching is to exert coercive control over the r&f. Your spiritual and social standing within the congregation is based upon the number of hours you report.

  If they wanted new converts they would do away with the d2d preaching and concentrate on the needs of the the potential converts. That will never happen. With converts comes commitments. Commitments are expensive. The last thing the watchtower real estate development corporation wants to do is spend money helping people.

  The pedo problem is a symptom of a much larger problem.

  To put it in context of your original question: I think the society would like to have an ever smaller group. They have created wealth and are now in a wealth preservation mode. New members equates new responsibilities and liabilities. They would much rather take the money and run and leave the problems in the hands of individual poor congregations.

  The problem with that strategy is how to keep the property out of the hands of congregations while at the same time keep the liability away from the mothership.
