I don't see it as a duty as an ex-jw. But I do feel that if you are healthy enough to do so and plan on accepting a blood transfusion, it seems somewhat selfish not to.

I can't give blood til my babys 9 months apparently but am going do, its my next goal. I want to do it because my other son wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the few teaspoons of blood he had when born early, it won't take my guilt away, nothing will, but if i can make a difference to someone like the person that donated the blood he received it would be fantastic.

I feel it is my duty because of the fact that my wife will be having a kidney transplant, and has decided to accept blood fractions. She doesn't know that I donate though. I'll tell her after the surgery.

Otherwise, I don't feel it's a duty for everybody, but a kind way to show your feeling for your fellow man.
