"Keep on holding fast what you have."-REV. 3:11.

    OPENING COMMENTS

First, notice how often the WTS uses the phrase "the truth" in this article; and without defining
    what that is.

Also, the message this week is that God will not love you unless you are a jw and stay one.

    START OF ARTICLE

Q 1, 2. How did you feel when you became convinced that what you were learning about Jehovah was the
    truth?

Do YOU remember when you first learned about the wonderful prospect that Jehovah offers to obedient
mankind? If you formerly practiced another religion, how did you feel when God's purposes were explained to you in the light of Scripture or when teachings that were once difficult to understand were clarified? Perhaps you realized that you had been misled. But how you rejoice now that you have been enlightened! If you were raised by Christian parents, do you recall how you felt when you became convinced that what you were learning about Jehovah was the truth and you decided to live in harmony with it?-Rom. 12:2.

obedient mankind means only the approximately 7 million jws. According to the WTS, the rest will
only get everlasting death, including babies.

Did you know that the WTS once taught that they were not a religion?

    Quote

    *** w51 3/15 p. 191 Questions From Readers ***

In the past we regarded “religion” as anything that was against God’s will. Now many brothers are
using the expressions “true religion” and “false religion” to make a distinction. Is this
    advisable?—D. D., California.

The brothers are correct in using the qualifying adjectives “true” and “false” respecting religion, so as not to be misunderstood, especially by those outside the organization. In the past we have had to do so much needless explanation and extricating of ourselves from embarrassing positions by not being specific on this. The footnotes of the New World Translation show the early use by Latin-speaking Christians of the term religio as the equivalent of the Greek term thres·keia. It simply means “form of worship”, of which there can be a true and a false kind. Study over the footnotes in the New World Translation on the texts at Acts 26:5, Colossians 2:18 and James 1:26, 27, and see how the footnote renderings allow for the use of the Term “religion” “religious”, though the texts themselves use the expressions “form of worship” or “formal worshiper”. Hence it is well to make clear our use of the term “religion” by qualifying it as “true” or “false”, if the context or setting does not do this sufficiently.

    Christian parents--only jws

Where is Jesus in this article; don't jws learn about him?

    2. Many of your spiritual brothers will tell you that they felt elated, close to Jehovah, and grateful that he had drawn them. (John 6:44) Their happiness moved them to share in Christian activities. They were so full of joy that they wanted to share what they felt with everyone. Did you have a similar experience?

Where are the sisters; just brothers mentioned.

    "Christian activities" means only jws.

Do you remember the "joy" of jws in the door to door work?

Q 3. What situation existed in the Ephesian congregation when Jesus sent them a message?

    3. When addressing the first-century Christian congregation in Ephesus, Jesus spoke of "the love you had at first." The Ephesians had many good qualities, yet the love they once manifested for Jehovah had waned. Hence, Jesus told them: "I know your deeds, and your labor and endurance, and that you cannot bear bad men, and that you put those to the test who say they are apostles., but they are not, and you found them liars. You are also showing endurance, and you have borne up for my name's sake and have not grown weary. Nevertheless, I hold this against you, that you have left the love you had at first." -Rev. 2:2-4.

So who today lie to jws? Who said the end was coming in 1914, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1940's, 1975,
(1984), (1994) and then ended the 1914 generation teaching in 1995?

    http://www.cephasministry.com/jw_when_prophecies_fail.html

Q4. Why is Jesus' message to the Ephesians relevant today?

4 Jesus' counsel to the Ephesians and to other congregations he addressed in the book of Revelation has been fitting in view of conditions that existed for a time among anointed Christians from 1914 on. (Rev. 1: 10) Yet, it is possible that even now some Christians may lose "the love [they] had at first" for Jehovah and for Christian truth. With that in mind, let us examine how by recalling and meditating on your own experiences, you can maintain, refresh, and build on the love and the zeal you first felt for God and the truth.

    Anointed Christians are only jws.

    "Some Christians" means only jws.

"Christian truth" means only WTS doctrine.

What Convinced You of the Truth?

Q5, 6. (a) Of what must each Christian convince himself? (b) What convinced you that Jehovah's
Witnesses teach the truth? (c) What can help a person to refresh the love he had at first?

    5. Everyone who makes a dedication to Jehovah has first to "prove" to himself what is "the good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Rom. 12:1, 2) In part, that involves learning Bible truth. What convinces one person that Jehovah's Witnesses teach the truth may differ from what convinces another. Some recall that a turning point came when they read the divine name in the Bible or when they understood what the true condition of the dead is. (Ps. 83:18; Eccl. 9:5,10) What impressed others was the love among Jehovah's people. (John 13:34, 35) Still others reasoned on what it means to be no part of the world. They concluded that true Christians cannot share in the political controversies or the wars of any nation.-Isa. 2:4; John 6:15; 17:14-16.

Does the average jw "prove to himself" anything or is he/she carefully taught only what the WTS
advocates? What if a jw does see something not in line with WT teaching? Aren't they told to "wait
    on Jehovah"?

The only "Bible truth" is WTS teaching.

What was your turning point in seeing that the WTS does not teach "the truth"?

If the WTS preaches being no part of the world, how was it that the WTS was associated for 10 years (1991-2001) with the UN as a non-governmental organization?

    http://www.randytv.com/secret/unitednations.htm

    6. For many, these reasonings and others were what kindled their first love for God. Take the time to recall what convinced you of the truth. You are an individual with unique circumstances and characteristics, so your basic reasons for loving Jehovah and believing in his promises likely differ from those of others. In all likelihood, the same reasons are just as valid to you today as they were when you first learned about them. The truth has not changed. Hence, reviewing those thoughts and feelings can in a way renew and refresh your first love for the truth.-Read Psalms 119:151, 152; 143:5.

What convinced you when you were a jw? What unconvinced you?

Loving God, where's Jesus in this scenario?

The CARROT is brought in by saying "believing in his promises."

"the truth" (how many times is that phrase in this article?)

"the truth" has not changed--how many "clarifications," "adjustments," flipflops has the WTS made?

    http://users.oeccwildblue.com/millerlr/PivotalYear1988SodomGomorrah.pdf

Q7. Why do some need to build on our first love for the truth, and how can we do so?

    7. Perhaps much has changed in your life since you made your dedication to Jehovah. Your first love for the truth was important, but as time went by, you needed a deeper love to face new challenges that put your faith to the test. However, Jehovah sustained you. (1 Cor. 10:13) Thus, your experiences over the years are also precious to you. They have helped you to build on the love you had at first, and they constitute another way you can prove to yourself the good, acceptable will of God.-Josh. 23:14: Ps. 34:8.

    "the truth...the truth"

Do jws prove God's will to themselves or the WTS/FDS/GB's will?

Q8. How did Jehovah identify himself to Moses, and how did the Israelites come to know God more
    intimately?

    8. To illustrate, consider the situation in which the Israelites found themselves when Jehovah stated his purpose to deliver them from slavery in Egypt. God identified himself to Moses, saying: "I shall prove to be what I shall prove to be." (Ex. 3:7, 8, 13, 14) In effect, Jehovah was saying that he would take on any role necessary to free his people. In the events that followed and as circumstances required, the Israelites saw Jehovah reveal different facets of his personality-as the Almighty, as a Judge, a leader, a Deliverer, a Warrior, and a Provider.-Ex. 12:12; 13: 21; 14:24-31; 16:4; Neh. 9:9-15.

OT--Moses (no NT example? Are jws Israelites still under the Law?)

Q9, 10. What type of situation can help one come to know God, and why is it good to recall such
    experiences?

    9. Your situation differs from that of the ancient Israelites. Even so, you have likely had experiences that convinced you of God's personal interest in you, which strengthened your faith. Perhaps Jehovah proved himself to be in some way a Provider, a Comforter, or a Teacher. (Read Isaiah 30: 20b, 21.) Or you may have sensed a clear answer to a prayer. You might have been facing a challenge, and then a fellow Christian provided help. Or personal study may have brought appropriate scriptures to your attention.

Are jws convinced that God has a personal interest in them, had a "clear answer to a prayer", received help from another jw (only jws are true Christians per the WTS) or understood a bible scripture without WTS publications?

    Quote

    *** w94 10/1 p. 8 The Bible—A Book Meant to Be Understood ***
Even as Bible prophecy pointed forward to the Messiah, it also directs us to the close-knit body of anointed Christian Witnesses that now serve as the faithful and discreet slave. It helps us to understand the Word of God. All who want to understand the Bible should appreciate that the “greatly diversified wisdom of God” can become known only through Jehovah’s channel of communication, the faithful and discreet slave.

    10. If you were to recount such experiences to others, some might not be particularly impressed. After all, the events were not miraculous. But you see them as very meaningful. Yes, Jehovah proved to be just what he needed to be for you. Think back on your years in the truth. Can you recall more than one occasion when you felt Jehovah's personal care in your life? If so, remembering those events and how they made you feel can stimulate in your heart the same feelings of love for Jehovah that you felt back then. Treasure those experiences. Meditate upon them. They are proof that Jehovah is interested in you personally, and no one can take that conviction away from you.

    "the truth"

God's personal care? Did jws come to your aid? How many of us waited for help and finally gave up
or were helped by a non-jw good samaritan?

    Analyze Yourself

Q11, 12. If a Christian's love for the truth has waned, what may he the cause, and what counsel did Jesus give?

    11. If you do not feel the same love for God and the truth that you once felt, this is not because anything has changed on his part. Jehovah never changes. (Mal. 3:6; Jas. 1: 17) He was interested in you back then, and he is as interested in you today as he ever was. So what, if anything, might have changed in your relationship with Jehovah? Could it be that you feei that you are under more pressure, more preoccupied with anxieties? Perhaps in the past you prayed more earnestiy, studied more diligently, meditated more often. Were you more zealous in the ministry and reguiar at congregation meetings than you are now?-2 Cor. 13:5.

    "the truth"

God never changes but has the WTS changed (see flipflops above)?

What is the solution to pressure...pray more, study more, meditate more, preach more, go to all the meetings? Yes, if you have problems as a jw it is because you aren't DOING MORE.

    12. You may not recognize any such tendencies in yourself, but if you do, what led to them? Could legitimate concerns, such as providing adequately for your family, caring for your health, or the like, have blunted your sense of urgency as to the nearness of Jehovah's day"! Jesus told his apostles: "Pay attention to yourselves that your hearts never become weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day be instantly upon you as a snare. For it will come in upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth. Keep awake, then, all the time making supplication that you may succeed in escaping ali these things that are destined to occur." -Luke 21:34-36.

Notice that "legitimate concerns" providing materially for yourself and your family, staying healthy, are no excuse for missing meetings and turning in sufficient time. And what is adequately as opposed to lavishly in the WTS estimation? The WTS has said that God's day has been near since
    1879, isn't that 129 years; even Noah's day only waited 120 years.

Q 13. To what did James liken God's Word?

    13. The inspired Bible writer James urged fellow believers to analyze themselves honestly in the light of God's Word. James wrote: "Become doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourseives with false reasoning. For if anyone is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, this one is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, and off he goes and immediately forgets what sort of man he is. But he who peers into the perfect law that belongs to freedom and who persists in it, this man, because he has become, not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, will be happy in his doing it."-Jas. 1:22-25.

The "light of God's Word" without WTS publications?

Q 14, 15. (a) How can the Bible help you to improve your spiritual condition? (h) On what questions might you ponder?

    14. A person can use a mirror to make sure that he is presentable. For example, if a man sees that his tie is crooked, he can straighten it. If a woman sees that her hair is not neat, she can adjust it. Simiiarly, the Scriptures heip us to examine what we are. When we compare ourselves with what the Bible says we should be, then we are using it as a mirror. But what would be the point of looking into a mirror if we did nothing to correct a defect we saw? We are wise if we act on the basis of what we see in God's "perfect law," becoming "doers" of it. Hence, any who perceive that their first love for Jehovah and the truth has waned would do well to ponder these questions: 'What pressures am I facing in life, and how am i reacting to them? How did I react in the past? Has something changed?' If such self-examination reveals any deficiencies, do not ignore them. If adjustments are needed, by all means make them without delay.-Heb. 12:12, 13.

Do the scriptures or WTS publications or doctrine "examine what we are"?

Compare ourselves or be examined by others?

    "the truth"

How many jws will walk away without feeling deficient after reading this?

    15. Such meditation can also help you to set reasonable goals for spiritual growth. The apostle Paul gave inspired counsel to his fellow worker Timothy for improving his ministry. Paul urged the younger man: "Ponder over these things; be absorbed in them, that your advancement may be manifest to ail persons." We too would do well to ponder, in the light of God's Word, what advancement it is possible for us to make.-1 Tim. 4:15.

What does the WTS consider "reasonable" goals?

In the past, Japan had monthly peaks and was used as a goal. This was the philosophy, reasonable?

    Quote

    *** w87 2/1 p. 15 par. 1 Doing Our Utmost to Declare the Good News ***
“A FEW years ago, many of us thought that only those with special circumstances could pioneer,” wrote a pioneer, or full-time minister, in Japan. “It seems we were wrong. We are learning that only those with special circumstances cannot pioneer.”

No more monthly peaks posted in the KM any more. Actually, the stats in Japan have taken a dive in number of jws, number of pioneers and number of congregations.

    http://www.jwic.com/04asia.htm

Q16. To what danger do you need to be alert when examining yourself in the light of the Scriptures?

    16. Any honest self-examination is bound to reveal some weaknesses. That could make one feel downhearted, but do not allow that to happen to you. After ail, the objective of self-examination is to identify where improvement can be made. Satan, of course, would like a Christian to feel worthless because of his imperfections. In fact, the assertion has been made that God despises all efforts to serve him. (Job 15:15, 16; 22:3) That is a lie that Jesus vigorously contested; God considers each one of us precious. (Read Matthew 10:29-31.) An awareness of your imperfections should instead make you humbly resolved to do better, with Jehovah's help. (2 Cor. 12:7-10) If illness or age are factors that limit what you can do, then set goals that are reasonable, but do not give up or let your love wane.

Do jws really get to examine themselves, or are they judged by how many hours they put on a time slip? Elders and MS must make the "national average" or possibly lose their "privileges," the rank and file must put in 1 hour/month or be judged "inactive." Can you think of other ways jws
    "examine" each other?

Much for Which to Be Grateful

Q 17, 18. What benefits come from building on the love you had at first?

    17. Great benefits are to be had from continuing to build on the foundation of the love you had at first. You can deepen your knowledge of God and your appreciation for his loving guidance. (Read Proverbs 2: 1-9; 3:5, 6.) "In the keeping of [Jehovah's judicial decisions] there is a large reward," said the psalmist. "The reminder of Jehovah is trustworthy, making the inexperienced one wise." Moreover, "happy are the ones faultless in their way, the ones walking in the law of Jehovah." -Ps.19:7, 11; 119:1.

Can a jw be guided by God apart from the WTS/FDS/GB?

18 You will surely agree that you have many good things for which to be grateful. You understand the reasons behind what is going on in the world. You benefit from the spiritual care and attention that God is giving to his people today. No doubt you feel grateful, too, that Jehovah has drawn you to his worldwide congregation and has given you the privilege of being one of his Witnesses. Count your blessings! If you were to make a list of them, it would likely be a long one. Doing that every so often will undoubtedly help you to apply the admonition: "Keep on holding fast what you have." -Rev. 3:11.

So what good things will the rank and file be grateful for? The WTS implies that God gives no "spiritual care and attention" to any but jws. Do jws know what is going on in the world when they
jump on every disaster as a sign the end is near?

Is it a privilege to be "one of his Witnesses" or a Christian, a footstep follower of Christ. Where
    is Jesus in this article?

Q 19. Apart from meditating on your relationship with God, what is essential to maintaining spiritual health?

    19. Meditating on how your faith has developed over the course of time is just one step that can help you to hold fast what you have. This journal has repeatedly drawn attention to other essentials to maintaining spiritual health. Among them are prayer, attendance at and participation in Christian meetings, and zealously engaging in the public ministry. These things can help you to continue renewing, refreshing, and building on the love that you had at first.-Eph. 5:10; 1 Pet. 3:15; Jude 20,21.

"This journal" is the source, or shouldn't the bible be given credit. Without the nominal scriptures the WTS uses, it is only useful as birdcage liner.

The three WT P's: prayer, participation, preaching. But jws are taught that Jesus does not mediate prayer for all of them, that participation means repeating the WTS words, and that preaching means drawing people to be part of a human organizationi.

    How Would You Answer?
How can your reasons for coming to love J ehovah be a source of encouragement to you now?
Reflecting on your own experiences through the years can convince you of what?
Why should you analyze your love for God?

    CONCLUDING COMMENTS

Once, jws are told they are deficient and need to be adjusted. They are even told they cannot be
confident that as an individual they will survive Armageddon.

    Quote

    *** w05 8/1 p. 31 Questions From Readers ***
It seems, then, that “probably” is not used at Zephaniah 2:3 because of any uncertainty about God’s ability to preserve those who have his approval. Rather, a person’s being concealed in the day of Jehovah’s anger is only a probability when he begins to seek righteousness and meekness. Preservation will depend on an individual’s continuing to seek meekness and righteousness.—Zephaniah 2:3.

Does the insiders edition message ever really change.....work harder....what ever happened to grace?? To Jesus??

  • Mary
    Mary

obedient mankind means only the approximately 7 million jws. According to the WTS, the rest will only get everlasting death, including babies.

You know what's so ironic about Blondie's statement above is that when this point was brought out a few weeks ago during the Craptower Study, Gumby leaned over and said to his wife "Isn't that wonderful that they know exactly how many people are going to make it through Armageddon?" She replied "that's not what they're saying." He said "that's exactly what they're saying." He then brought up the same point to his son in law and his son in law also replied "that's not what they're saying" and checked it out for himself. He was surprised to see that that's exactly what they were saying.

I also find it ironic that all these "really good Christians" sit there and are apparently oblivious to what the articles are actually saying, yet an apostate like Gumby was apparently the only one in his congregation who actually picked up on it. This is more or less proof in the pudding that the average Dub isn't "paying close attention" to what's actually being said.

Now that is an interesting scripture and one that I think is actually applicable to the WTS. If there were those in Ephesus who were claiming that they were apostles (or those closest to Christ), they were more than likely attempting to wrest a measure of control over the congregation so they could run things their way, possibly by enforcing their own views onto the average Christian. Obviously these men would have come to the congregation as 'men of authority' in order to substantiate their apostolic claims. The Ephesians were apparently not guillible, suspected that these men were frauds and therefore "put them to the test"-----a test which they obviously failed as it plainly states "you found them liars."

Today amongst the Witnesses, there is a very similiar situation. The Governing Body members have made the claim that they are not only Christ's brothers, but that they and they alone are the Faithful and Discreet Slave Class whom Christ appointed to dispense truths and spiritual food to the rest of mankind. Yet the congregations today are not allowed to "put them to the test" to see if their claims hold up under scrutiny. Anyone attempting that will be disfellowshipped for apostasy. This indicates that there was far more freedom without the fear of disfellowshipping hanging over your head every time someone back then made claims that they could not support; a freedom that most certainly does not exist amongst Jehovah's Witnesses today. This is yet another example that clearly demonstrates that the WTB&TS is not practicing christianity the same way those in the 1st century practiced it.

What impressed others was the love among Jehovah's people. (John 13:34, 35) Still others reasoned on what it means to be no part of the world. They concluded that true Christians cannot share in the political controversies or the wars of any nation.-Isa. 2:4; John 6:15; 17:14-16.

Unless you want to whore yourself for a UN library card. Then it's okay.

    11. If you do not feel the same love for God and the truth that you once felt, this is not because anything has changed on his part. Jehovah never changes.

No, Jehovah doesn't change, but the ever-changing doctrines of the WTS is another matter.

    2. You may not recognize any such tendencies in yourself, but if you do, what led to them? Could legitimate concerns, such as providing adequately for your family, caring for your health, or the like, have blunted your sense of urgency as to the nearness of Jehovah's day"!

This is a ridiculous statement to make and reveals a glimpse into the never-never-land state that the Governing Body apparently live in. Of course Witnesses are concerned about providing adequately for their family and caring for their health, especially as they are instructed not to get a decent education, work overtime if necessary or even work full time if at all possible. This was all said and done with the "assured expectation" that Armageddon would be here "soon" and certainly not in 20, 30, or 40 years down the road. With more and more Witnesses apparently realizing that they were duped, it's only natural that if they have to choose between making enough money to pay the bills or missing a Thursday night meeting, the latter is going to lose.

Apparently, you can't earn a decent living and expect Jesus at the same time. Or at least according to this study article. This is a wonderful example of the guilt trips that the Governing Body apparently enjoy inflicting on the R&F whenever they come up for air------a desperate attempt to try and re-instill the fear of Armageddon into them yet again.

Next week, our lovely Mary, will be stepping in to handle the WT study. She has done so in the past and done an outstanding job. For the week of September 1-7, 2008, "The House-to-House Ministry--Why Important Now?" In fact the next 4 Sundays will deal with the jw door to door process.

Yep.....I'm already working on it.....It boggles the mind how much they twist the scriptures but I'll save that for next week.

    Good review Blondie.

    Some things that stood out:

    "Christian activities" means only jws.

Christian activies - of course they are talking about only approved jw activities (i.e. field service, meeting attendence, cleaning the hall, going to assemblies). Helping the poor and infirmmed - not an approved jw activity and is considered a distraction from real christian activities (see above list)

    the "truth"

Since this is an insider's magazine, there is no need to define the "truth." I doubt that the r&f ever think twice about those two words - the truth.

It is interesting to note that when the Watchtower and Jehovah's Witnesses refer to "the truth" they are talking about the Society's organization and teachings. But according to the Bible and Chrisitian belief, it is Jesus who is "the way, THE TRUTH and the life." The absence of Jesus in the articles is in direct corrolation to the substitution of the organization in the minds of the Watchtower Society and its members. And this is probably the most serious error that the Watchtower has made.

The teachings and information that you learn as a study is far different to the 'hardcore' information/doctrines that you are exposed to when you progress through the natural course of becoming a JW.

    Paragraph 12:

Could legitimate concerns, such as providing adequately for your family, caring for your health, or the like, have blunted your sense of urgency as to the nearness of Jehovah's day"!

    No you stupid gits.

You want to know what has "blunted my sense of urgency"?

130 years of your failed promises! "Very soon now...oh so very soon...you will never grow old in this system of things...How appropriate it would be for Jehovah to bring Armageddon by 1975...a work that will be finished in our 20th century....very soon now..."

Blunted sense of urgency. Blunt this!

    Idiots.
