Over the last couple of years Google Books has put up several early Watchtower books from various public libraries. The first ones of note were some editions of the Millennial Dawn volumes. However, the quality on some of these was poor. There is not a simplified search feature for the various Google editions of Studies in the Scriptures or Millennial Dawn and many volumes are just labelled "Studies in the Scriptures" or "Millennial Dawn," even though they are different volumes in that series. Sometimes, finding these files can be a bit of a challenge. Lately, however, Google Books has put up more early Watchtower volumes with better quality scans. The complete 7 volumes can now be found on Google Books. Some have been mentioned here before and a few are of particular note. I have put together in one file all the 7 volumes that can be now found on Google Books. Volume 1 is the first edition (but not first printing) of Millennial Dawn. It is from a paperback version and includes C.T. Russell's acknowlegement for his wife's help. (This acknowlegement does not appear in later editions.) Volumes 2 and 3 are pre-1914 versions and include the original predictions for 1914 unchanged. Volumes 4 and 6 are hard to find online in scanned versions. A bonus: Volume 5 also contains Tabernacle Shadows. The edition of Volume 7 contains unique pictures that most other printings do not have. I have also included in this file the 1913 "The Divine Plan of the Ages as Seen in the Great Pyramid," a very rare Watchtower volume. Many of these were scanned from volumes on the shelf at Harvard University. Google says these books are in the public domain and asks that their watermark be maintained as these files are shared. This compliation file is huge. It's over 4,300 pages and is 137 MB. It will provide a scanned version of all these books with the convenience of having them in one file and it also provides the Google info page for each volume. Towards the bottom of that info page there is a link to where you can find the volume online. Right click on that and it'll give you the option of opening up your browser to take you to the volume online. (This may not work outside the USA.) The online volumes are searchable: just click on the "Read This Book" tab that will appear on the main page and that will load the complete volume and a search option will appear on the right. These files in this compilation are not searchable as that would have made the resulting file extremely huge. For those interested, the file can be downloaded from this filesharing site: http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=4431b5c859a3845960e6819132e174e9

I had a request to organize some of the titles at Google Book Search. This is not an exhaustive listing, there's a few booklets also online there. This should be most of the book titles. From time to time these offerings seem to change. One version of Volume 3 is no longer online and I've noticed that the Google Book version of Millions Now Living Will Never Die is currently not online. Perhaps those files are being fixed as they had some problems in the scanning.

I'm hoping these links work here. When you go to the links you should get two options. Either to "Read This Book" or "Download Now." From this front page you can search the book or you can search using the "Read This Book" option. The downloaded PDFs are not searchable. If you download these, you will want to rename them correctly as the default download titles are almost all the same.

    WOW, great work.

I'm sure many will find this very useful when dealing with people who believe this is and always has been the one and only true religion.

It has a "write a review" section!

It also has a "favorite passages" section. It would really be fun to be the one to select which passages go there.

    Thanks, Rebel 8!

Be aware that almost all the other online versions of Studies in the Scriptures (with the exception of those over at Internet Archive) are from the 1916 edition. Most of the online versions at the JW site "Strictly Genteel" are post 1914 also. Those are notable as being the latest revision done by C. T. Russell. However, almost all the 1914 predictions have been changed. Instead of saying "before 1914," the predictions have been changed to say "after 1914." For example, go to the 1889 edition of The Time is at Hand!, Volume 2 of Millennial Dawn/Studies in the Scriptures at:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=vu0YAAAAYAAJ

and type "1914" into the search box. You'll get a bunch of quotes stating what they were expecting to happen before 1914. 1914 was the farthest date they had in mind. Some very definite strong predictions for what they were expecting by 1914.

Now do a similar search for "1914" in this PDF:

    http://jehovah.net.au/books/2-The-Time-Is-At-Hand-.87Mb.pdf

It's the standard text for The Time is at Hand, but it's the 1916 edition. (This is the same text that's distributed by Research Applications.) Since the predictions for 1914 had failed, they had to re-write the book. 1914 was just the beginning of the End in the 1916 edition of The Time is at Hand. So, that is why these pre-1914 editions are important to use when talking with JWs about these predictions.

Hi again, thanks for the recent posts of google books. It seems to be that you have to be in the US to download a pdf of the books , which is a real pain, and I don't know why that should be. Any way I have managed to get some of them via a 'proxy' but no luck with the bigger ones.
The ones I have missed out on are ..

    Hi jaydee!

I'm right in the middle of some school work, but I'll try to get those files up on a filesharing site this weekend.

I'm curious. How does a "proxy" work to be able to download the files? That might be of interest to some people here who are in a similar situation as youself.

    Wikipedia..........
    Circumventor

A circumventor is a method of defeating blocking policies implemented using proxy servers. Ironically, most circumventors are also proxy servers, of varying degrees of sophistication, which effectively implement "bypass policies".

A circumventor is a web-based page that takes a site that is blocked and "circumvents" it through to an unblocked web site, allowing the user to view blocked pages. A famous example is elgooG, which allowed users in China to use Google after it had been blocked there. elgooG differs from most circumventors in that it circumvents only one block.

Students are able to access blocked sites (games, chatrooms, messenger, offensive material, internet pornography, social networking, etc.) through a circumventor. As fast as the filtering software blocks circumventors, others spring up. However, in some cases the filter may still intercept traffic to the circumventor, thus the person who manages the filter can still see the sites that are being visited.

Circumventors are also used by people who have been blocked from a web site.

Another use of a circumventor is to allow access to country-specific services, so that Internet users from other countries may also make use of them. An example is country-restricted reproduction of media and webcasting.

The use of circumventors is usually safe with the exception that circumventor sites run by an untrusted third party can be run with hidden intentions, such as collecting personal information, and as a result users are typically advised against running personal data such as credit card numbers or passwords through a circumventor.

    Sounds great in theory anyway................
