Well, I am not one who plays, however, my husband is in a band and he prefers a Taylor.

I have to admit after hearing many guitars, the sound of a Taylor is beautiful. I purchased a Taylor for him back in 2002. I paid around $3,000, it wasn't too expensive, but it was cheap either. After, he played the Taylor, he never looked at other acoustic guitars.

Paul Reed Smith - is another favorite of his. Plays his PRS with a Mesa Boogie amp.

If I had to calculate the musical equipment in my house, I would sit hear and cry thinking we could have paid off the house already.....lmao.

I'm not much of a player but I had an Ovation for awhile. I liked it. I liked the rounded back. My biggest complaint was that the strings were higher off the fret board than I was used to. Took some practice...but I'm not an accomplished player...

I've never had an Ovation. I've played with guys who had them and I've played them. I like em. They're a good gig guitar for not having to over worry about back dings. I like the necks too, fast like a Fender.

My dust collector on the stand is a Japanese acoustic Fender flattop that I've had over 20 years. I have several others. My oldest if a Fender Jazzmaster that I bought new in 1965. I still have the Fender Vibrolux Reverb, Silver Face amp I bought new in 1964.

I have a Martin D28 I bought new in 1971 and a 7/8 Martin scaled down dreadnought guitar like the one Marty Robbins played. Can't remember the model #. I have an Alvarez Dreadnought 12-String too. I can't stand to tune it. My fingers aren't callused enough for 12 strings now anyway.

My favorite is the Japanese Fender.

I recently played a really nice electric-acoustic 12 string by Breedlove. What a wonderful sounding Guitar. Even made ME sound good!!! But for 800 Bucks, still a little out of my price range right now. But I guess $800 is cheap compared to a Gibson.

I have an Ovation, with electric capabilities. It really is very versatile and sounds beautiful, both acoustically and with amplification. It was a gift I receieved over 30 years ago. Wouldn't part with it for the world.

The round back never bothered me, kinda like it really and I always play sitting down.

Why not have a look at a made in Canada guitar - see http://www.simonandpatrick.com

Simon and Patrick guitars are beautifully made but a bit out of my price range I am afraid.

A year and a half ago, I bought an Ovation Applause (acoustic electric). It's one of their cheaper Chinese made ones, but still sounds great.

It was my first guitar in almost 20 years....since I did play a little, way back when. About 3 months after buying it, arthritis in my left hand and fingers stopped me from doing just about everything. Now that "arthur" is under control I need to get back into at least trying to play.

I too find the round back awkward when sitting down since I'm a little portly in the belly. Should have bought a straight back guitar!

    Good luck with your playing,

    HappyDad
