It seems I was right all along.

Over the years I have posted many times, in many places that I was convinced there is an element working for the GB to chase posters away from ex JW sites by making life uncomfortable for them, even to get sites themselves to close down.

Having seen many posters leave various sites, most of the sites give up and close down, it seems they are winning.

Now this one, the premier site, is closing.

    So sad.

    i see your point...

but there is NO way they're winning.

People are turning to the internet, to COLLEGE, to 'the world' in droves... people are becoming smarter and learning to question at an earlier age. People are and always will keep leaving cults. And that's all the Watchtower is... just another cult

the only sad thing is we were vulnerable enough to fall for it.

By winning I simply meant 'where else will we go?'.

The support structure for ex JW's is being attacked.

I kind of agree searcher. Whilst I understand Simon's reasons for withdrawing, I think to lose this site is a serious victory for Jehovahs Witnesses. They will smugly sit in their ivory tower and say "Jehovah has smite our enemies, aren't we the best" It'll give more power to their philosophy.

I feel sorry for the newbies. So many come on here looking for comfort and reassurance that they made the right decision, a reassurance they're not likely to get in many places. There was a balance here, very few ranted and were uneven in their criticism of the WT but If someone went over the top or exaggerated, it was quickly corrected by maturer ones.

I'm gonna miss this place. It kept me informed on what the Society were up to, often before the congregations even knew, and it kept me abreast of the indoctrination my parents were receiving, helping me to counteract the watchtower before they'd even studied it at the hall. (thanks blondie)

We must replace this site. I'm no IT specialist but I understand the importance of the experience and senoirity of those that post here, and we mustn't lose them! We mustn't lose the elders and MS that post info for us, we mustn't lose the faders who keep us up to date with the latest Society spin. They're all too important. Their experience and service is a great assistance to those contemplating leaving and those who have left/thrown out who feel lost and adrift.

In this case "where shall we go" is a good, practical question. Which site/forum does Simon and the mods recommend? Is anyone willing/able to take on the responsibility Simon carried?

Unless you think of it this way...

f the WTB&TS is indeed celebrating the closure of JWD, they better take a step back and think a little. The way I look at is that JWD has helped to train soldiers in an information war. Now, the soldiers are breaking up camp and ready to invade. While it may be a little difficult for JWDers until the dust settles, the society is going to have to face an army of people who are now well educated to the evil ways of the cult. And those well educated people are going to be all over the Internet instead of clustered in one spot.

The WTB&TS damn well better forbid the Internet for their cult members, because we will be everywhere to speak out against the governing body and to provide support and education to the newly awakened. CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, there is this one positive thought to remember -

What good JW elder is going to be able to state from the platform that the JWD has closed down (let alone gloat over it?)

It would create a compromise in itself - how do you know without actually lurking about the hated Internet?

And, if you did announce it - would it not cause curiosity for the pubs themselves to go look at the hated Internet? - just to see what the guy was talking about?

I don't think the WTS has anything to do with it. Just a few smirking f*gs that are high-fiving each other now for bringing down JWD. Ugh.

Most certainly correct, however, JWD has been an important site for years, helping doubters and newly exited persons to learn to cope in the real world, showing them they are not alone.

One of the WT's most potent weapons for keeping the R&F in line is fear of losing everyone they know, JWD has ben a bastion to give exiting ones hope.

    As what-a-coincidence correctly wrote:-

Forums as these are stepping stones into the 'real world' ... out of the Watchtower Matrix ... these sites aren't meant to be an aspect of your life forever

The support structure is everything to exiting JW's, as can be seen from even a cursory glance through the threads on this board.
