In The Name Of Jehovah?

Quick question that goes for everyone. Is it respectful or disrespectful to call God by His personal name?

For example, Let's say theres a guy name Rob. Rob is my father. I have to call him father because of the respect that I am his Son and he is my father. Although I know my dad's personal name is Rob, he's still my Father and I'm still his son.

If God is our Heavenly Father and we're all God's children and followers, shouldn't the same respect apply to Him? Is it just me or calling Him by his personal name is similar as talking to any ordinary human being?

    Reminds me of this song.

If God had a name what would it be? And would you call it to his face?
If you were faced with Him in all His glory
What would you ask if you had just one question?

1-And yeah, yeah, God is great
    Yeah, yeah, God is good
    yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah
What if God wasone of us?Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin' to make his way home?

If God had a face what would it look like?
And would you want to see if, seeing meant
That you would have to believe in things like heaven
And in Jesus and the saints, and all the prophets?
    (repeat 1, 1)

Back up to heaven all alone
No, nobody calling on the phone
No, just tryin' to make his way home
    Nobody calling on the phone
'Cept for the Pope maybe in Rome

Out of disrespect for Jehovah, I would rather do things in the name of Satan. Why should I respect any God that volitionally ruined my sex life and then manipulated me into some stupid cult, and then has the nerve to claim it wasn't Him?

When (IF) that Almighty Scumbag starts consistently showing ME respect, and undoes all the damage He has caused by disregarding my personal needs (fat chance), then I MIGHT start showing Him respect. Until then, I would rather do things in the name of Satan.

    hmmm

where i am right now there are a series
    of tangential thoughts

    god?
    is there a god?
    does he have a name?
    is he a he?
why would god care about a name?

all i know is that when our
oldest son, at about 3, started
    using his papa's first name
i told him that papa had all the people
in the world to call him m***, but only
one person ( at the time) to call him papa

the now 23 YO still calls him papa

First of all, you have to research the history on the Divine Name to know that "Jehovah" is not the correct pronouncation. Yahweh would be closer. Imagine if your name was GEORGE and people called you GROGI. How would you feel?

    Hi! sacolton,

Imagine if your name was GEORGE and people called you GROGI. How would you feel?

    I am a Japanese.
Americans could not pronounce my real name correctly.
Probably, pronunciation differs in Japanese and Americans. And even if Americans make a mistake in the pronunciation of my name, I will allow.

Everybody says that the pronunciation "Yahweh" is right.
However, in English, it pronounces like "ja:wei"
This pronunciation itself is not right.
The pronunciation "i" of the last of "ja:wei" is not related to Hebrew pronunciation.
    It is English pronunciation.

    Possible-san,

I understand what you are saying, but here is my take on this:

In Mexico, they pronounce my name Berta. I am not offended by

that because maybe they don't hear my name as Velta.

If I heard your name and wanted to have a close relationship with

you, even though your name might be hard to prounounce, I would

try until I got it as close as my English-speaking tongue could.

I think that we ought to give the same respect to our Father when

talking ABOUT Him and when talking TO Him, call Him Father

out of respect. Just my opinion.

    Love and hugs,

    Velta

    Hi! Velta,

In Mexico, they pronounce my name Berta.

    I understand your words.
There is no sound of "V" in Japanese.
Therefore, the Japanese who cannot speak English does not pronounce "V".
For example, English "Love" is pronounced "labu".
Furthermore, there is also no difference between "R" and "L" in Japanese.
    So, it is pronounced "rabu".

Moreover, Japanese does not have the pronunciation of only a consonant.
    So, "Velta" is pronounced "beruta".

Moreover, the name which appears in the Bible is also different.
For example, "John" is pronounced "Yohane".
    "Rachel" is pronounced "Rakeru".
    "Peter" is pronounced "Petero".
    "Jesus" is pronounced "Iesu"

This is the proper pronunciation in Japanese.

I would try until I got it as close as my English-speaking tongue could.

    Yeah.
"Yahweh" does not pronounce "ja:wei" in Hebrew.
    It is "mispronunciation".

    possible
