Once I quit the WT, I stopped feeling the need to gossip about others.
I learned quickly to respect people as they are or don't hang with them.
I've found that "churchy" people are the biggest gossips.
It's a way to climb the social ladder in a group such as that kind.
It happens in offices, too.
I guess competition can't be avoided in those groups.
