Just saw it. Very, very good. Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman are great, but of course the gorgeous and talented lol Will Smith takes the cake. What an amazing actor he's evolved into! I really enjoy watching him on screen Anyhoo, go watch the movie. Not the best film hes been in, but def worth watching. |

Enough with the damn superhero/comic book movies already. I guess the premise of the film is 'what if a superhero was like us, with faults and personal demons?' Gag. As if that's profound in any way or a story that needs to be told. Gag.
This is one of those movies (and they are legion) where everybody will tell everybody else "it's really good!" - when it's not. And they will sell boatloads of it on DVD, and people who have already seen it in theaters will sit at home and watch it with on their big screen with glassy-eyed, mouth-agape, expressionless faces.
Dan, in a dyspeptic mood and very comfortable judging a movie I haven't seen, cuz, well, I just know. -

Saw it today... Cool show... definitely go see it.
It sets up a great mythology with a lot of potential. The only problem I can see with future shows is the fact that he is supposed to be immortal an never ages. Makeup can only do so much.

I thought Hancock had all the great makings of a good popcorn film.....but.... I thought the narrative of the film got sidetracked with "the twist". it just didn't feel right.
However, did anyone else see this movie as being about US Foreign policy i.e. the imperfect superhero who tries to get the job done while leaving a lot of problems in the wake? The eagle imagery? The surly behavior? The inability to communicate with the local police force? The need for a PR specialist? The sequence where he's in a self-imposed exile? The film sets up the fictionalized version of LA as a modern-day Iraq. Weren't the filmmakers being.... too obvious?
