Well after reviewing Rutherford's life .........further proof that the WTS might be correct that 'higher education' for the purpose of material betterment leads to a life of evil, haughtiness, drunkeness, greed and corrupting lusts of many kinds!

Hi VM. I couldn't find anything on the Normal Shorthand Institute of Carbondale, Ill. either. However, Rutherford did attend two semesters at the Hooper Institute in Clarksburg, MO. and shorthand was one of the classes offered during the year that he attended. Hooper was a credited teacher's college so I don't know why Joe would try to hide his educational background.

Hi VM. Joe was a whiz at shorthand, when he took the court stenographer's exam he passed with flying colors. However, I don't know why he didn't give proper credit to Hooper. Perhaps the Shorthand Institute sounded more prestigious on his resume.
