Don't make that check out to "Watchtower" anymore!

An announcement was made at the meeting about instructions for donations at the district assembly. Instead of making a check out to "Watchtower" the instructions are to make it out to "Christian congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses". Most of the R & F didn't give this a second thought but it made my ears perk up. Maybe a thread has already been started about this but I was wondering what the motivation for the change was. Is it because of the tax breaks that Christian churches get as opposed to publishing companies?

Why don't they just have them make the checks out to Don A Adams?

Right about the time the child molestation scandels started heating up (around 2000-2001) the Society created four new corporations, all headed by members of the great crowd(tm), possibly to shield the Governing Body from future lawsuits. Governing Body members no longer sit as directors on any WT corporations which presumably would make them immune when the corporations are sued.

The money is still going to the same dirty rats, but the corporate entities have changed.

Maybe a seperation of funds into different accounts? The society has taken great pains to legally separate funds in the past several years. I remember them asking us not to write checks specifically for disaster relief as they could best determine how funds were to be used. In other words, they didn't want to use the money for disaster relief.

It's best to find a charity you trust to use any money you wish to go to others in need or just do it yourself.

They were very specific last year, checks had to be made out to "Watch Tower." Not Watchtower.....

As I've said, I believe Legal is running the show now. There are so many new (as of 2000/2001) corporations set up, it would

take a team of IRS agents to follow the money trails. They may not even be able to unravel it all!

Eventually, the laws of physics will have to consult with lawyers before causing a body at rest to remain so.

Wasn't it Romney who said in one of the debates (on being asked what he would do before going to war as president) - well, of course - I would have to consult with the attorneys...

I wonder - back in the old days a few of the older annointed ones had a few shares of Watchtower B & T Society stock. They would be told each year to sign a proxy before the annual meeting and let the directors vote their shares for them...this was before the governing body came about. So now, with this complex web of corporate structures - are there still individual stockholders, or does one corporation just own another, and another, and so on, - like a nesting Russian Doll?

CC of JW sounds more "biblical" than WT. They are trying to look more legit biblically, and less like the big ol publishing house, that's all
