The Watchtower and The Memorial

The fundamental doctrines of the Watchtower hinge on one teaching, and that is that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607BCE. It is well documented by now that not one secular source supports the date given by the Watchtower for the fall of Jerusalem. In the field of archaeology much work has been done since the 1800s when this date was first coined. The evidence proving that the city fell in 586/587BCE runs into the thousands by virtue of archaeological finds.

However, the Watchtower is stuck with this date because of the 2520 years added to 607 BCE brings us to 1914 which according to them was the end of the Gentile Times mentioned in the book of Daniel. The 1914 date is also significant because of the teaching that Jesus was enthroned in heaven to rule and thereby marks the time of his second coming. This was now said to be an invisible second coming. But this is where it really gets interesting.

If Christ returned in 1914, why do they still commemorate the Lord’s evening meal annually? The scripture in their very own New World Translation states at 1 Corinthians 11:26; “For as often as you eat this loaf and drink this cup, you keep proclaiming the death of the Lord, until he arrives.” It seems as if the JWs want it both ways.

Proclaimers chap. 10 p. 137 Growing in Accurate Knowledge of the Truth
As the events following 1914 began to unfold and the Bible Students compared these with what the Master had foretold, they gradually came to appreciate that they were living in the last days of the old system and that they had been since 1914. They also came to understand that it was in the year 1914 that Christ's invisible presence had begun and that this was, not by his personally returning (even invisibly) to the vicinity of the earth, but by his directing his attention toward the earth as ruling King.

Well.....he hasn't actually "arrived" yet, his kingdumb "presence" is just being felt. That is one hell of a hair-split, isn't it?

you know everytime I see this its like I am reading it for the first time.

How did this never raise eyebrowes?? How did this not stir anything up?? I mean really,,, we all know the WTS spins and twists words and manipulates words so they can have multiple meanings, thus giving time to see how things pan out and they can later choose the "meaning" that suits them, but really??

What the hell is this statement supposed to mean?

    bite me

I am confused too. It is not clear at all. Christ is only going to have one second coming and the WTS has Christ returning a third time?

The slippery old goats in their ivory towers have wormed their way out of bigger stuf than this in the past. 1914 is almost forgotten now, this religion is always re-inventing itself.

The new light doctrine is their most important teaching, because of it they can come up with anything that suits them.

Here's the real reason for the REJECT Jesus Party:

They have to have an occasion for all the witlesses to be together at once. The normal boasting sessions are being missed by too many, so they want to have one that is special. So special, in fact, that they waste a whole month inviting those who are inactive to attend. The idea is to get everyone that is inactive or is interested but at an early stage.

Once everyone is together, they can be hounded. Anyone whose field circus activity is spotty or has missed too many boasting sessions can now be spotted and hounded. Get them back to full time activity--that is the goal. And then they can be hounded to get rid of that music, get that 4 door car, quit that full time job, stop having forbidden sex practices, and the like. But, they need something to get them together in order to do that. And, since the REJECT Jesus Party looks legitimate, it can be set up as the front to get everyone there.

Little do they know, I have no plans to ever attend one of those wastefests again. Not only that, but I will never recommend anyone attend (except for those whose circumstances require it, like someone early in a fade with family in). That way, they will never get me to get rid of my Ouija board, Christmas decorations, or porn in my computer (or, for that matter, the apostate Web sites I have bookmarked for quick reference). Let alone the rap CDs I have, my full time job, or anything else I am doing that they do not like.

According to Splane or one of the other GB flunkies, Jesus "comes" in 7 different ways! Funny how most of them are invisible and unprovable....
