How do you leave?

    Leaving isn't easy.

What I think is important to remember though is that although you lose the social life of the hall, you didn't really have deep friendships there anyway. (at least I didn't...and the one person I was friends with kept in touch with me even when I faded).

You will certainly miss the hall and everything it entails, including the social contact. However it is possible to rebuild your life and it need not take that long.

I was married when I left and my husband left me not long after. I found myself without the JWs and without a husband! Overall it has shaped me into who I am today.

I'd much, much rather be away from that cult than be in it. It is a cult...there is lots of information which shows exactly how they use the tactics and control methods. Free yourself while you are still young!

    Hello Helen,

I really could feel empathy with you when I read how you feel at the moment. I stopped attending meetings nearly one year ago after attending from the age of 3...44 years in all. I have had the same feelings of guilt and not knowing where I am with myself. In the last year I have met some wonderful people. I just be myself I dont have to preach to them or expect anything from them other than that we can be friends. I have got involved with a couple of local charities and have seen things that leave me astonished. I have made friends with an elderly woman who uses all her money and time on helping very poor people in rumania. I can honestly say that my husband and I and our children have never been happier than we are now.

Still it has taken a year of turmoil emotionally to come this far. Dont give up, dont go back, dont regret either. I am what I am because of the time as a jw, so I accept that. But now I am moving on and boy am I happy I am.

Read a lot...go to womens clubs...invite a neighbour over for coffee. If you are disappointed in someone, try again. Join a fitness club, meet friends on the net.

Watch the movie then ask your friend if she wants to go away for a weekend...do it! You will have great fun and you will open up to each other.

I wish you all the best and much joy in your life

50 Ways To Leave Your Religion

The problem is all inside your head
    She said to me
The answer is easy if you
    Take it logically
I?d like to help you in your struggle
    To be free
    There must be fifty ways
    To leave your religion

She said it?s really not my habit
    To intrude
    Furthermore, I hope my meaning
    Won?t be lost or misconstrued
    But I?ll repeat myself
At the risk of being crude
    There must be fifty ways
    To leave your religion
Fifty ways to leave your relgion

    CHORUS:
You just slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don?t need to be coy, Roy
    Just get yourself free
    Hop on the bus, Gus
You don?t need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
    And get yourself free

She said it grieves me so
To see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do
    To make you smile again
    I said I appreciate that
    And would you please explain
    About the fifty ways

She said why don?t we both
    Just sleep on it tonight
And I believe in the morning
You?ll begin to see the light
    And then she kissed me
And I realized she probably was right
    There must be fifty ways
    To leave your religion
Fifty ways to leave your religion
