This is from someone who has never lived anywhere else....but, New Jersey is a bit warmer than New England and hasn't been bad this winter (so far). It's easy to get to the major east coast cities(DC/Boston/New York/Philly) as well as the beach. Also is comparable in prices to Mass.

Flying High Now - It is true that the cost of living is high in certain parts of California ,especially city areas, and especially taxes are high - however in rural areas it isn't so bad . But then again - to have the privilege of living in a pretty area , one has to drive for the good jobs. True there have been some move to Oregon and Washington , but they aren't true Californians if they want to get waterlogged and soaked with rain in those two states 365 days a year ! LOL ! Real Californians love the sunshine and those of us ( like myself ) born and raised here consider it a small inconvenience to pay somewhat more to stay . Being self-employed, I'll just charge my customers more money to offset rising prices ! And those who love to ski- move to Colorado

Check out Beaufort, South Carolina
Pronounced: Buford
Quiet, close to the ocean, friendly, low prices.
Or, if you don't mind a little winter weather...
