I can sympathize with you. I've suffered with migraine's for years now. At one point I could have a migraine for 7 days straight, in the dark laying as still as possible. It hurt to even breathe. Finally my neurologist found the right combination of meds for me and my migraines are under control.

I do have flair ups, I had on over the past 3 days. I even went to the ER because the pain was so bad I thought there has to be something else wrong. All tests were ok, they pumped me full of pain meds and antinausea meds. I feel better today, but it's not totally gone.

I definately know how you feel. Try not to feel as though you are wasting your time with the doctors. Doctors are not magicians and don't carry a crystal ball. It's called practicing medicine for a reason. You just have to keep plugging away until you find the answer or treatment that works.

Do you belong to a migraine-sufferer's forum? If not, it might help to at least connect with other people going through the same thing. Here's one that looks quite active: http://www.migrainepage.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi

Also, if your doctor is essentially giving up, perhaps it's time to try a different doctor? I have a primary doc that will refer me to specialists if need be. But if I am dissatisified with her, I can pick a different primary doc. I have to pick from a list, but it's a long list. If you have a similar option, you might as well try it.

Hope all the best for you!

Thank you all. I know I can act like a drama-queen when I'm so low. My psych had ordered me on anti-depression meds cuz there are days when I live in darkness of mind. Thing is : I NEED to believe that it will get better. And it's hard enough to keep that belief when treatments fail, meds don't work, diets don't work.... etc. I just have not find that right combo of factors yet that will help me.

So it's hard enough believing that there is hope, and its not easier when my general practisionar writes letters to my specialst saying "there is medically nothing wrong with that lady" ... ffs if there is nothing wrong, I would not have headaches... right?

Thankx all for your replies, they help.

Viv, have you discussed cluster headaches with your doctor? They are sometimes called :suicide headaches" because they are so painful. A person can suffer from them for months and then they go away--without explanation.

I want to encourage you to hang in there. Please remember that you do not want to die, you want the pain to stop. I hope it does.

    Much love to you.

I imagine that you know that certain foods cause migraines in some people. Pork, coffee, strong cheese, msg, red wine. I think chocolate is on the list, too. Good luck.

(((Viv))) I know that's rather lame just mere words on a screen, but I am so sorry to read about this condition which is causing you so much misery.

Wish a good ol' Canadian hug would suffice/help. I know, it's just not that simple.

I'm sure you've tried everything under the sun. Who knows what counteracts or cancels other medication. Especially if you're on anti-depressants.

Come to Canada. We won't make your headache go away, but we'll give you a different one (from having too much fun).

Nice to see your name back on here as I've just jumped back in here after an almost 2.5 yr. absence.

    Hugs to you darling.

I wish I could take some of your pain from you. My brother has similar issues at times and I think an anti-depressant MAY help.
Sometimes real physical pain(which I believe you have!) can be exacerbated or mitigated by your mood. I have experienced THAT a great many times. ( I have real foot issues that get better and worse, but when focused on, they can nearly cripple me. At other times, you can barely see a limp-thats how much difference it can make for me-When I am down, my focus goes to my pain and it is, of course, worse.)

I doubt that could end it, but it might make it manageable or bearable. When you are in too much pain to focus on anything else, it is magnified many times.

Any chance you could get a new 'home doctor' that may have a more holistic approach?

Nah there has to be an answer. It can't be possible that there is nothing physically wrong with your brain and yet this still happens.

Sorry to hear it sis. Keep searching, you'll find the answer. Try everything.
