Good question, to me it seemed like being an Israelite was nothing but trouble.

There also appears no lasting benefit to being an Israelite, as all people will receive a resurrection..

Seems unfair, but then again maybe the 144,000 are chosen from the 12 tribes of Israel like the bible says.

Was there any benefit to being an Israelite?

No benefit after Christ. No benefit in world war II. History remembers them as killing Jesus!

    Hi Ozzie,

Good perspective. I am wondering how to frame that answer for a JW, as it would end up into another tricky tangent of "once saved always saved".

Interestingly, your question parallels the question: Is there any benefit to being a "great crowd" member who dies before the Great Tribulation?

It's amazing to talk to a JW and ask them about the bad God dealt out to the Israelites. Did individuals follow Israel when they knew that the majority of Israel was doing bad? If they didn't were they punished for going against the grain? The JW will always say, "no they were not punished for following Jehovah's true laws". You've just found the weak spot in the whole "Israel=Orginization".

BurgerTime, that really is a good point. Since for much of the time the Nation and its Leaders were rebelling against Jehovah, following false Gods and teaching incorrect teachings, were individuals expected to follow what they felt was the right thing to do, or follow the organization?

Fast forward to today. If an individual thinks the Watchtower leaders are being unchristian in their practice of shunning family members, should a JW follow the Governing Body, or associate with family because they know that is the correct thing to do. Anyone that chooses to keep associating with their family risk being disfellowshipped themselves.

Nice try, but I doubt they'll wear it! Remember they say that Jesus came and inspected 'them' in 1918 (or was it 1919?) and they, of all those claiming to be christian, were the ones the Lord chose to be "his special possession".

Yea it gets stuck in the "well if your right Jehovah will vindicate you" routine. I am sure in a few Watchtowers they hint at how just being an Israelite didn't really matter, it was rather you could follow the law. The logic of equating Israel to the org doesn't work on any level. Since the dubs claim being a JW is a prerequisite to entering Paradise it derails the whole Israel concept again since they accepted other nations on conditional basis.
