Weeklong Elders School for POs This Year? Any info? (page 2)

Thanks to all, and thanks for the link back to the oct 07 discussion.

My father-in-law is in his mid-70s and not well. He was hoping to be able to get out of it, but it looks like the pressure is on to go. He should not be on a Bethel schedule, for sure.

My question is, who foots the bill for sending the PO's and elders there???? Is it going to be the congregation or are the attendees going to be given the priviledge of paying for the transportation themselves?

The Borg offers to help them by providing the room and board, but tells them how
much they should show their appreciation for how much this costs THE WTS.

The instructions will undoubtedly be to pay for this, themselves. It will go on and on
about what a "privilege" this is, to arrange one's affairs prayerfully, doing whatever is
necessary up to quitting a job that won't let them go. "Trust Jehovah to provide."

They will suggest some kind of carpools for those that have financial difficulties.
Brothers who can shoulder the burden should offer their car and not charge the others,
but allow them to donate, leaving some for Mother. "Bring some peanut butter sandwiches
and a thermos. We'll let you refill the thermos in our kitchen before driving home (but you
are on your own for sandwiches)."

hmmmm....I see what you are saying, but I don't think I could handle a full week.

I guess I could bring my laptop and give nightly reports to JWD from my room. Do you think they will allow the internet? I may have to resort to using my blackberry during washroom breaks to do my JWD reporting. It could be exciting!

We'll have to see exactly when the Oracle is invited to attend...before I make my final decision.

Current odds are 35/60 for declining the invite, even though the live reporting back to JWD would be fun.

Wow, our former congregation (Seattle.............West Coast, so no driving from here to there) has elders that are very elderly, 86, 88 and a couple in their 70's. One is about 60. The older three are very poor, living on Social Security, and would not be able to afford that kind of a trip, even if their health would allow it. I'll bet the old ones don't go. I know one has a very ill wife, and the other has a serious heart condition, and seldom gets to the KH anymore, and I doubt he could go. One has a wife that is an invalid and he takes care of her 24/7............what would happen to her?

One of the other elders is about 50 and is a school teacher. I wonder if he could be excused from school for this.
