How many were baptized - by using this figure in your calculations, you can work out how many left.

This is not an official number. the annual report is not out yet If anything, the "official" number would be higher, not lower. I doubt the number printed in a Feb 2008 Watchtower will differ from the number printed in a Feb 2008 KM; one would expect the numbers to be totalled by now.

How can they know the 2007 results before the end of 2007?

Is this a PRO FORMA count? Did the Enron accountants go to work at Witch Power Babble and Trick Society?

ALL it means is that more people are faking their reports due to increased pressure.

So if you compare the new (2007) figure of 6,957,852 with that August 2006 count, that would be a 1.03% increase. (Sounds realistic to me.)

Your math is not correct. The increase for 2007 is 3.21% over 2006. That is 216,408 more peak publishers!

    Posters should hold their horses!

There has been a lot of uninformed stuff in this thread. First, confusion has arisen between annual peak numbers of JWs and annual average numbers. Second, the figures run from September of one year to August of the next; so that's how they are able to get the figures for 2007 out now (just like the fiscal year runs from April to March the following year). Third, peak numbers have been going up year by year in lots of third world countries and even some western countries; it's the averages that have been stagnating or decreasing. Fourth, how the figures are collated by the watchtower has been a matter of wild speculation coupled with anecdotal evidence by lots of posters; so what? The JWs take the figures as accurate and - let's face it - in recent years, the figures haven't been too flattering of JW activity in western countries; if the Watchtower were intent on faking it, how do you account for the reporting of several countries with zero or negative growth?
