    Hello, again, Never:

This is all very enlightening and perhaps a bit disturbing.

I've already become accustomed to the temblors rumbling through the underpinnings of my "religion," so I'll take this in stride. The article above in effect describes the two-facedness of the Society: there is the publications' adamant stance that 'only those in association with the anointed remnant [aka Governing Body] have any chance of surviving the great tribulation and Armageddon' and, in stark contrast, there is PR puff that 'we've never said that only Jehovah's Witnesses will be saved.'

Saving face, damage control, going mainstream, deceptive recruitment, cover-ups - gosh, what a list of negative characteristics describing JWs and their works of deception.

None of the above is actually new to me. What slapped me in the face was how this information relates to my life of 40 years. The HOLY BOOK does not endorse the liberal theology I so heartily believed and taught. "Believe or burn" is the new reality!

I think I need a drink [of water].

    Thanks, friend.

    It is a slap, isn't it, {{{CoCo}}}?

    Enjoy your water.

    Take good care,

John 12:32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself."

Romans 11:32 For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.

Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

1 Timothy 4:10(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.

if lack of belief does not by itself doom one to Hell, why not just discard the unverifiable supernatural baggage and instead devote one's life to being the best human being possible?

In the end, God who is the judge will determine whether a person is worthy of heaven or hell based on the deeds he has done while he was still on earth. Paul wrote in Romans "those who do not know the law, shall not be judged by the law." Jesus made it very clear, that we have to love God with all our heart mind and body (this implies belief . The second is that we love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Lack of belief in and of itself, does not guarantee Hell (some people are invincibly ignorant) , and the judgement depends on the individual, but we are still individually judged. However, Nvrgnbk, when you die, you will believe. If we go to heaven to be united with God it is because we freely choose to love him. To die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God's merciful love means remaining separated from him for ever by our own free choice. This state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed is called "hell."

People of other religions who have not been introduced to Christianity and Christ, that is, they who have not been given proper reasons for believing in the Gospels or perhaps never heard about anything at all are ignorant of the true message. But as Paul in Romans states clearly, all men have a conscience and will be judged by the law written on their hearts. For it is not knowing the law that God desires most, as written in Romans, but obeying the law. All other religions have moral laws to adhere to, however wrong some of those may be in one way or another, those people seek to please the God they know, and therefore if they knew the truth we'd figure out that they would be faithful in whatever faith they are brought to believe in.

As a Christian I not obliged to sit back and let you revel in this ignorance. Quite the opposite. But know that whatever and wherever we don't succeed, God will take care of matters according to the ignorance clause found in Romans, only He will truly know how validated that person is and what their destination will be.

It is even conceivable that God has purposely withheld evidence and allowed the claims of religions to become exaggerated and go unsubstantiated because he does not want us to believe in him. (Something for a liberal theist to think about: Could God be a spiritual "parent" whose desire is that humanity grow to the point where it no longer needs him?)

Now that is an interesting speculation.

Nvrgbk, Good post. You make some good points to my mind.

Now I am practically an atheist who believes in a designer.

When I say I belive in a designer, I'm not saying I believe a designer will save me.

I am saying I believe some entity designed us.

After that I dont know know whats going to happen if anything.

I know labels are distasteful to many, for good reason, but they can be useful.

You've just described yourself as a deist, jaguar.

That's what many of the founders of the US were.
