In my day , up the late nineties, smoking cigarettes was major reason bringing them before the B of E ..It was usually those who had given it up to become witnesses and they regressed when feeling stressed ...The last one I did was for gambling. The man had done nothing worse than buy a lottery scratch card and be seen in public. Luckily he was "repentant" and we counselled him with due severity and let him off.

I was DF'd for fornication (while being a virgin at the time) ... the real reason was apostacy. The P.O. and elders came to my house gravely concerned about my reading CoC and other books - and thus having lots and lots of questions.
At my Judicial Committee I was stunned when they came up with the fornication and I did not protest as I saw it as a sign that this was not Jehovah's Organisation.
Maybe others have a similar experience ?

Well in all honesty I had been flirting with a man I knew from work. And the elders did know about this too. Cuz I am not one that can keep my mouth shut . But all my elder-meetings, and my main problem were my questions and doubts. The last time the PO came the only subject of our talk was CoC, and nice questions I had. After that he told me I had two options: DA myself or go to the committee. Since I had doubts, and was hugely confused I agreed to the JC, and prayed to Jah that if this was the thruth, they would help me. Instead they came with the Porneia charge, explained that flirting was also porneia - and that was that. --- And how do I get the yellow highlight OFF ??I was stunned when they came up with the fornication

In thirty years with the organization I only knew of one person Df'd for apostasy.
She was an elderly sister not long after "Armageddon" (the 1975 non-event) who'd approached the elders because she didn't want to be a Witness anymore. It seems she'd kind of burned-out in her old age and just didn't have the energy to attend all those five meetings a week and hours of field service to boot and wanted out. She so angered the elders with that they Df'd her for apostasy instead! I guess they were trying to keep the real reason for her leaving from the rank and file, not wanting to admit that anyone could possibly be overwhelmed and burn out from the demands of the bOrg, but word got out anyway.

I DA'd when charged with 'Apostacy'. I imagine the rumors of sexual sins got started later. Anyone knows that any good apostate must also be a whore-monger.

Guess what... It wasn't 2 months before some sick, twisted JW's were saying that I was fornicating with my 22 year-old mental health therapist who is 29 years younger than me. A couple even staked out my home at night. I suspect it was to obtain 'evidence' so my ex would be 'free to re-marry, but only in the cult.' -
