My experience of this life is that nothing is certain. I have been a fool to consider as truth that which I have no knowledge of. It is a possibility but to put faith in an unprovable word of mouth is to do what people do everyday as their gossip prevails. I can but look inside myself and have a hope there is a power overseeing life and whether that power leads me to sleep or to life I do not mind. And if I am led to punishment then that power was not worth my second thought. Love will prevail is my hope in death or in life and que sera is my expectation!

(((((((Eryn))))))):
We humans waste a lot of time & energy in an attempt to evade death. Wanting to slow the ever forward march of time, trying to look younger, chasing the dream of what we used to be. We sometimes live as if we will never die. As if we had the courage of an immortal teenager. I, on the other hand, must live differently because I am much too close to the end of this earth walk. I have no time stamp as to when that will be. But it's fast approaching. It will come to those near and dear to me as well. Death is a part of the circle of life. It's a release. One more step closer to home.
Your words echo those of Sogyal Rinpoche in his classic The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. If you haven't done so already, I implore you to get hold of a copy. The book is available on Amazon - and perhaps from public libraries.
You know my own story well and I can tell you that the aforementioned book will give you immense encouragement. It certainly did - and still does - me! I take it with me each time I go to the hospital (twice a week).
Sogyal Rinpoche shows how people of the west are in fear of death, while those of the east take a more pragmatic outlook. The Tibetans, especially, simply don't have a fear of death! I, too, have absolutely no fear of death - but I DO fear the way I might die. Rinpoche explains how we should use this life we have as a preparation for death. I have to confess that before reading this excellent work I just hadn't seen it that way. Have any of us?
You seem to be in tune with your spirit, which is a rare commodity. People may say things like "It comes to us all", but I doubt very much that they are as brave as the words they speak. I, too, had said similar words in the past because we all know death is a fact - but when I was really struggling with my illness and could hardly breath I panicked. I berated myself for not having, for example, Sogyal Rinpoche's faith - but until we are looking death squarely in the face we don't really know how we'll react.
I pray your death is not as close as you think, but I am also mindful of the fact that even the healthiest can suddenly drop dead or be killed in, for example, a traffic accident. Truth is, we just don't know when death will carry us off, which is why it is good to prepare now.
It is obvious from your whole-souled post that you have helped many here. That's a wonderful legacy and one I, too, would like to leave.
Keep strong, Eryn, and especially keep focussed on what Caine said in the TV series Kung Fu - "With each ending comes a new beginning."
Love, ((((((((hugs))))))) and kindred spirit best wishes,
Ian

You are in the moment of a fading flower ,seeing life to come in others spring and summer, whilst also life for you takes on autumnal hues and hopes may have your spirit in some other summerland, past the closing sleep of this ones winter passing. I wish you the touch of lifes hand upon your soul. With the moonlit starry nights and the rays uf sunlit days, in the winds that filter past and busy natures noisy ways. Blessings to you ~ Erynw
It is amazing how. Jesus observed the moon in his lifetime for festivals etc and how in homelands around the world natives did the same in their own way as best they could to be true to the nature of life they were all a part of. The human spirit is happiest when it's closest to nature. I recently looked into Wicca and was shocked to realise how misinformed I was on intellectual and spiritual levels with people who do rituals to send out the energy of love to each other and for their own alignment with the world of life around them. There are people in all sorts of faiths doing their utmost to be happy and living. To cloak darkness with light and trust it to arise with a similar view with the break of new mornings.

Personally, I think that no greater words were ever spoken on the subject of death, than those of Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.
"To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure."
