What Mormons Could Teach The Watchtower

The Mormons are one of history's most amazing demonstrations of the power of sticking to a story and

getting people to believe in nonsense by well maintained habit. Or as they observed on "South Park"

in regard to the early Mormon witnesses, "Dumb, dumb, dumb.......dumb dumb dumb".

Yet, no matter how silly the beliefs are, there are some very practical benefits . Such as:

    They strongly encourage education

They get their youth to learn foreign languages and about other cultures in a 'rite of passage'

    missionary experience.

They have programs and basketball courts for kids.

They have an internal welfare system.

and some other things the Watchtower could learn?

Well, they prove that you can have rampant, goofy theological speculations and still have a strongly

unified organization. example: ideas about "Mr. and Mrs. God".

Considering the latest idiocy about "this generation", perhaps the bozos on the Governing Body

    are learning something about this.

And if Hillary stumbles, we might even have a Mormon president.

You know, I was just reflecting on this the other day...

Membership as a Witness gives you absolutely no fringe benefits, even to the most active of members!

There are no children's programs, no Sunday School, no Mother's day out programs, no youth programs. This teaches children from the earliest of age that going to the Kingdom Hall is a boring, painful (spanking for bad behaviour!) experience.

If any kind of group activity is organized by someone in the hall, before too long, a part on the service meeting is given, or the CO delivers a talk at an assembly, about how we should avoid (meaning:it's forbidden) group activities that take away from our "precious time" in the ministry.

And, then, when you get old and sick, you are left to contend with doctors at a hospital that won't "respect" your religious beliefs, because, that's right!, Witnesses don't have hospitals like the Catholics and Baptists.

They also teach their people to prepare for emergencies. Really prepare in case of disasters. See www.beprepared.com

I've never seen the WT do that other than some letter that was sent to the congregations after Katrina but never in print for R & F.

I was raised in SLC and have several family members who are Mormon. I agree with you. The kids I went to school with were proud to be Mormon and showed of their CTR rings. They had educational classes for newlywed wives to teach practical homemaking. Every child is expected to go to college of some sort, even if the women married soon after their boyfriends got home from their missions. The majority of my friends that were Mormon had close families. But it was funny when Mom and the oldest daughter were having kids at the same time. In high school they have one period a day where they go learn about the faith, or seminary. It was held in a seperate building on the school grounds usually. And they usually had some organized sports program going at the church across the street from my house. I was so jealous. Family is really stressed because they feel families are eternal. My G-pa is sealed to his current wife and his late wife, meaning they will all be one big happy family in heaven.

There is alot about them that is cooky, but for everyday living I think they have it together.

Activities and "ministry" support groups, that would be nice. I often pass both the local Baptist and Methodist churches whom both have many various "activities and groups" and think DAMN if they just didn't have trinity, hell, and I of S!!!!

I know how much happier/healthier I would be in that environment. OOOOH upbuilding and encouragment beyond prayer and FS!

We have Mormons but beyond the ministry they keep to themselves and are quite a mystery.

Like the JW’s not everything is as simple and Disneylandish as it seems from the outwardly impression.

Their whole highly programmed grasp on spirituality, religion, and reality is based on the writings of the fairly illiterate con man and pedophile Joseph Smith. Just because he “married” girls who were 14 and 16 years old doesn’t make his lust for pubescent sex anymore acceptable. The Mormon leaders just manipulate the minds of their followers by defining and redefining what “acceptable” is, so what ever their leaders want or lust for, automatically becomes acceptable (just like the JW’s). They make up the rules as they go along just like the JW’s do and for the same reason “profits for their prophets”.

Their belief of the large celestial family sure comes in handy during their 10% tithing collection time. The larger the family, the larger amount of god tax is collected in the church coffers. Mormons have to pay government taxes as well as church taxes. If they don’t give a little of it back in the form of community welfare and “fun for the whole family” entertainment and recreation, then the rank and file Mormons get a little suspicious and pissy.

It’s more of a “look at all our happy members “big Osmond brothers smiles” approach but it’s still a mind control programming technique. The JW’s approach is telling their members “you are the happiest people on the earth” and then they all repeat “We are the happiest people on earth”. Not that they all believe it but because they were programmed to believe it, and then programmed to repeat it and then convince themselves they are.

The JW’s take a little more “scared straight” and just “shut up and do what you are told” approach. The JW programming has death at Armageddon without the possibility of parole / resurrection scare if you don ‘t believe us. Where the Mormons are programmed to believe that life is an never ending ride on the “it’s a small world after all” ride at Disneyland.

Either way they are both great examples of cult mind control used on the good hearted botched and bungled. The ones being controlled simply have the option of a happy “looking” deception by Barney he purple dinosaur or the scared straight fearful deception by Attila the Hun.

StillaJWexelder, it is in a way, but it's a bit cynical too. Think about it, who else encourages higher education?

    Government.

    Why?

    Taxes.

Higher income means more income taxes. Now when you take into account the fact that Mormons adhere to strict tithing rules it makes sense a bit more sense.
