A thoughtful series of twenty six pro-life arguments specifically against abortion can be found at:

    --------

One of the best written is #14 that answers the question(s) "What about the hard cases - rape, incest or the life of the mother? Shouldn't abortion be allowed under these circumstances?" See: http://www.all.org/article.php?id=10242

Some paragraphs form the above link:

    # The "hard cases" represent perhaps only 1 percent of all abortions. Yet we hear about them all the time. To be equitable, there are no doubt "easy cases" which can be brought up against the pro-abortionist. What about abortion performed for sex selection, or under duress, or without full disclosure of fact, or without parental consent or notification? Or abortion for birth control? Or abortion in the last month of pregnancy? Or how about abortions performed on the basis of coin flips, tea leaves, horoscopes, etc.? As upsetting or outlandish as some of these scenarios sound, all are possible. All are legally permissible. And such "easy cases" are no doubt much more prevalent than the oft cited "hard cases."

    # If a rape/incest exception were allowed: How would we differentiate between the rape victim and an abortion-minded liar? Making a woman "prove" she was raped, not to convict her attacker, but to get an abortion, would be disastrous. Surely some women desiring an abortion would feign rape (the plaintiff in Roe v. Wade, Norma McCorvey, recently admitted to lying about being raped). This would cause great damage to the true victims of rape who already risk character assassination by the judicial system.

    # There are virtually no conditions that threaten the mother's life in which abortion is a medically recognized treatment. In some conditions (e.g., an ectopic pregnancy or a cancerous uterus) a treatment may be required which indirectly kills the preborn. But in such cases, the treatment does not legally or morally qualify as an abortion. When removing a cancerous uterus, the intent is to save the mother; every effort to save the child should still be made. Thus even if the child dies, the treatment is still fully justified. The death of the child was never INTENDED. In contrast, for an abortion the intent is always the same: to kill the preborn child.

    # Quote from Dr. Alan Guttmacher, pro-abortionist and former head of Planned Parenthood, in 1967: "Today it is possible for almost any patient to be brought through pregnancy alive, unless she suffers from a fatal illness such as cancer or leukemia, and if so, abortion would be unlikely to prolong, much less save life."

Being Pro-life myself, I couldn't agree more with those arguments. It's common sense that abortion is murder. Any other interpretation is simply justification for killing of the innocents in the name of convenience.

BA- And yes, I support capital punishment for the guilty for crimes such as rape, pedophilia and murder.

I agree with Pope John Paul II's stance on capital punishment, that in should be used rarely, and only when all other methods of deterrence have failed or are unavailable.

The only method of capital punishment I support is "death by incarceration", i.e., life without parole. And the first ones up for the punishment are those who've helped murder hundreds of thousands in an unjustified preemptive war.

Being Pro-life myself [...] I support capital punishment

    That always makes me laugh.

I support capital punishment but I am prolife - where's the irony?

People who murder in cold blood have already forefited their rights to life.

On the other hand, plenty of pro-choice people abhor war.

People: do we really need to re-hash this one again?

Have we not learned as former witnesses how destructive and divise it is to insist that "my way is the only way"?

Can't we just respect the fact that we are free to our opinions on this issue and leave each other be?

As a male I could never make the ultimate decision anyway. If a close female friend or family member asked for my input I would take into consideration the reasons she was considering it, but I would tend to try to help figure out a way it could be avoided. I would respect the final decision.

As far as what other women, strangers to me, decide, I feel it is none of my business or the government's either.

The closest all of you armchair demigods can come to controling this practice is to cast a vote for those who might get into a position to impose your wishes on society. It is not going to happen.

FDA considering new standards for birth control drugs

"Evidence Doesn't Matter" in APA Abortion Advocacy

The Pill – Progesterone only, low dose combination pillsThe Physician’s Desk Reference lists the above hormonal contraceptives as having three mechanisms of action: 1) Prevent ovulation, 2) Thicken the cervical mucous to prevent sperm from entering the uterus and fallopian tube, and 3) Alter the lining of the uterus so implantation cannot take place. The third action, if and when it occurs, is abortifacient (meaning a human life has begun but cannot continue to develop without the nourishment provided through the mother’s uterine wall). Although pro-life physicians continue to debate if and how often hormonal contraceptives interfere with the implantation of an embryo, it is important to educate ourselves and our clients about this potential action of the Pill. Those who seek to protect the sanctity of human life from the point of fertilization should be cautious about taking any drug which could end the developing child’s life.

For further research, download or purchase the helpful booklet Does the Birth Control Pill Cause Abortions?NorplantThis implant is placed under the skin of the arm for up to a 5 year period. The progesterone hormone’s effect is to suppress ovulation, but after 2 years, there is a greater chance of break-through ovulation and fertilization. The hormone may prevent implantation of the embryo.
Depo-ProveraThis Progesterone (hormone) derivative is injected every 3 months to prevent a woman from ovulating, but it also alters the uterine lining. Break-through ovulation and fertilization may occur, though less frequently than with Norplant. The hormone may prevent implantation of the embryo.
Morning after pillLarge doses of existing birth control pills (or another drug levonorgestrel, known as Plan B) are given up to 72 hours after intercourse to attempt to prevent the implantation of the embryo. A second dose is given 12 hours after the first one. The action of these large doses of hormones birth control pills work to prevent ovulation and/or fertilization.

RU-486When a woman is given RU-486 (also called Mifepristone), it kills her baby by interfering with progesterone, the hormone which keeps the baby implanted in the wall of the mother’s uterus. Two days later, the woman returns to the clinic to receive a prostaglandin drug which induces labor and expels the dead embryo (RU-486 is used until 7 weeks after the first day of her last menstrual period). If the baby hasn’t been expelled by the time the woman makes her third visit to the doctor, she will require a surgical abortion procedure (5-8% likelihood). Raymond, Klein & Dumble, the pro-abortion authors of RU486 Misconceptions, Myths and Morals, (IWT Pub, 1991) stress that RU-486 is not safe for women and list the following contraindications (reasons a person should not take RU-486): under age 18 or over 35; menstrual irregularities; history of fibroids, abnormal menstrual bleeding or endometriosis cervical incompetence, previous abortion, or abnormal pregnancies; pelvic inflammatory disease; recent use of IUD or the pill 3 months.

    Methotrexate & Misoprostol
Two drugs that were developed for cancer (methotrexate) and ulcer (misoprostol) treatment are now being used in combination to kill babies. Methotrexate is used to poison the baby and then Misoprostol empties the uterus of the baby. Keep in mind that Methotrexate is a chemotherapy drug with the potential for serious toxicity, which can result in the death of the mother as well as the baby.
