    Ramble On

I liked Led Zep for a long time before one day it finally occurred to me that the lyrics said "Gollum, and the evil one..." and it clicked for me: holy cow, they were Tolkien fans! I read the books long before the movies came out and (re)popularized Hobbits and Ents and Orcs, and played D&D for years, so realizing that just made me like them more.

Having been raised in the WCG, which is very similar to JWs, I was of course never allowed to own the albums, only got to hear at friends', on the radio, etc...I often misheard lyrics or wasn't sure what they actually said, and usually without much chance of verifying or correcting what I thought they were. For anybody interested, it's called a mondegreen (laid him on the green) when you hear something incorrectly and believe it to be true, fascinating stuff...

Impossible to pick just one when you nearly like them all.

Tops for me would be (going album by album): Dazed and Confused, How Many More Times, Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant Song, Friends, Tangerine, When the Levee Breaks (okay Stairway is great too), Rain Song, Dancing Days, The Ocean, Kashmir, Ten Years Gone (prolly my all time favorite), Achilles Last Stand, Nobody's Fault But Mine, In the Evening, Fool in the Rain, Poor Tom, Wearing and Tearing.

I guess those are the ones I listen to the most.

I'm really with Leolaia on this one, but if I must choose, In the Light, from Physical Graffiti, would certainly qualify.

Wow - so many great LZ songs, but I keep coming back to "Ramble On"

Most know that LZ reference LOTR in many of their songs. Appropriately, somebody put set clips from Fellowship of the Ring to the music.

this one is even better IMO

For me, it is a tie between Battle of Evermore and Black Dog.

"Battle" is based on the Battle of Pelennor Fields from Return of the King. I think the line using the phrase "angels of Avalon" calls to mind the metaphorical salvation of another fictitionalized King (Arthur) with beautiful lyricism. Black Dog is just plain ol' irreverent fun.

But I never met a Zep song that didn't like me.

    Respectfully,
