It is nearly impossible to have any normal relationship as a JW. Relationships among members of the same family get twisted and weird. It happens outside the borg, too, but not, IMHO, to the extent or with the strange twists that it does on the inside.
My friendships and acquaintanceships are so much more healthy (and fun!) now.

My opinion is "yes", you can have a platonic relationship witht he opposite sex---even in the Organization. I had several male friends that were no more than friends, although we'd sometimes get raked over the coals by the elders for 'being alone without a chaperone'. To their minds, the second you're left alone, you're going to commit fornication or porneia .

Thank you for the replies anyone. Like I said, I understand why she was concerned, that's why I respected her view on it. I just hate how easy it is for everyone in the congregation can eventually be in on it and really affect a relationship.

J-A-S, although I can't agree w/ you more, there are many here who are active JWs. Some have different reasons for being here. Some are JW apologists trying to get us XJWs to see the error of our ways. Some are Elders, MS, pioneers, as well as active publishers who are questioning their faith and knowledge and come here for help and support. As for my honey, R.F., he is slowly fading and doing a damn fine job, if I do say so myself.
J-A-S, I agree, but as my dear sweetface said, i'm technically "still in", fading because of my family, so i'm very careful about how I handle things. Sounds like it sucks I know, but that's the route I choose to go right now. I just like to share certain experiences of mine just in case there happens to be others here who can relate.
Snakes...I just read through the link you provided and can't believe there was such a big fuss over a lie. If the same thing would've happened to me while I was still an active Borg-believer, I would've been crushed by it all.
Having a platonic relationship in the Tower is impossible for the simple reason that Brother Hounder will do all he can to bust it up.
Oh right fair enough. I thought that people who make it to this site have already made their mind up about the whole thing but I hear you.

its a fact..... you can have a totally platonic relationship with somene........ there are people who you love as a friend but you would never go beyond that............
problem lies in the fact that the elders and by extension the other brothers and sisters automaticly give bad motives to you.............. since your not allowed to have any sort of sexual relationship outside of marriage they are gonna scream and yell that you MUST be doing something inappropriate with anyone of the opposite(not even) sex if out of sight for more than 30 seconds.
fact is..... even if your interested in someone dosent mean your gonna have sex........... want to yeah.
i got raked over the coals because i was seen leaving the hall in a suv with tinted windows in back....... next to me in the front seat was a young blonde sister.......... very shapely and cute. they didnt see the black sister who was wearing black in the dark black tinted back seat......... so im automaticly the evil brother who is trying to sneak off with a young single sister.
fact is.... this sister was dumber than a box of rocks....... nothing is a quicker turn off for me than that. no way i woulda touched her but they gotta have something to go to the elders about to make themselves look holyier
